Challenge:
Please price the cheapest fare for the following:
One way journey:
Peterborough-KX
Saturday 23rd Oct. Morning travel
2 adults
3 children.
£48.30 From East coast website, includes 10% online discount, however, if you get a Family and Friends Railcard the price comes down to £26.25. Family and Friend Railcards are £26 (discount code 'family10' might get it for £23.50) so all depends if you use it again in the future?Whoa! Thanks for the reply.
I forget to say it's after 09:30 (DOH!)0 -

Then £80.15, with railcard £43.25 via First Capital Connect train only
Do search On East Coast website, click 'show slower routes' then tick 'first capital connect only' and update.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

Yes,that's what I got initially.
However if I buy a DAY RETURN ticket for the party it comes to
A Super Off Peak ticket on the FCC at 10:18 is £63.00
AND THEN
There is an offer of Kids travel for £2 if they travel with an adult on an off peak fare so actually - and the web-site doesn't gice this - the fare should be
a total of £42.00
Adult fare is £18
Kids fare is £2.00
Funny how the web-site and the telephone operators don't mention this!0 -

I have what I think is the cheapest fare, just like to see if the experts here can find it as I had the run around by the web-site and the 'phone operators.
Then I needn't waste my time posting stuff which might be higher than you have already got. :beer:0 -
Blindman, tell us what you have found. Why the secrecy?

I wasn't trying to yank your chain-Honest.
I was seeing if others could find the fares I had to spend a while getting and to coroborate I had the correct thinking.
TBHO the 'phone opertor was useless and the web-site wasn't any better.
Didn't mean to waste your time, but to point out that railfares, even for the experts, can be a nightmare.0 -

Be careful with that £18 fare, I couldn't find it anywhere so it might not be valid on First Capital Connect and as they operate a strict Penalty fare policy(£20 per ticket) I would check before travelling.
Anyway nice find those £2 kids fares.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

That £18 fare is an Off Peak Day Return valid on FCC only.
That's why I couldn't find it, the OP asked for a Single One Way Journey in the morning, then changed his requirements to get the answer he already had, oh well more time wasted.
Anyway thanx wealdroam, for taking the time to answer my query.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

Guys, I appreciate your expert input on this thread. :T
I have made similar contributions to two other threads.
I actually asked for a One way journey to see if anyone would suggest buying a RETURN (and not using the return portion) to get the cheapest ticket.
AFAIK that's not against the rules;)
Not to trip you up, but to see if anyone would get that its often cheaper to buy a RETURN than a single
The Kids for £2 offer doesn't come up on the web-site and I suspect when I go to the ticket office tomorrow they won't mention it.
Train fares
Again, I (and others) , appreciate your efforts.:T:T0
