  • Thanks for all your help guys - apologies for the late response I was unable to get online last night. The train looks too expensive for me I think I will try to find a coach!

I'm trying to find out the cost of a train from Flitwick in Bedfordshire to Worthing.
I've looked at various sites and got really confused - we normally use the car but OH hasn't been well and doesn't really want to drive the distance.
I know we can change at Brighton or Haywards Heath but can't fathom out the costs...........so far all I've found is £65 return or thereabouts
    Can anyone help ?
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

You've not given any dates, but for example, travelling on 20 April...
If you can get to Milton Keynes Central Station, maybe X34 bus from Flitwick, then there are Advance Singles from MK to Worthing at £4.50 on many trains. Just two changes at Clapham Junc and Brighton.

Maybe you are planning a return trip...
Using 27 April as an example, similar £4.50 tickets per adult are available. Then the X34 bus back to Flitwick maybe.

So a return trip for £9.00 plus bus fare must be good.

Info from Southern Trains website. you must book via that website to get those prices.

You'd have to buy it at Bedford tourist office - but for £14.50 (I think that's the current price) you can buy a day ticket for unlimited off peak travel on FCC trains. Not sold at stations. It will get you from Flitwick to Brighton and back

you then get a local bus or train from Brighton to Worthing

Thankyou both for your help. Sorry.....forgot to put dates........we need to leave Flitwick and arrive Worthing 26th April and return to Flitwick on 30th............we're staying with our son in Flitwick en route to see other son in Worthing -driving down to Flitwick and leaving the car there to collect on return journey.
I'll look into both these options -once again, many thanks:j

An Off Peak Return with railcard is only £46.65. Valid on all trains those days.

This is a walk-up fare that can be purchased on the day if you like.

    Info from Southern Trains.

    Edited to add:
If you really want to save, split your ticket at Crewe.
Off Peak Return Colwyn Bay - Crewe = £14.90 with railcard.
Super Off Peak Return Crewe - Euston via London Midland Trains only = £14.50 with railcard.
Total = £29.40, but you may have to leave London a bit earlier than you planned.
