    Hey gym :) welcome

She shouldnt have said that, cos any breastmilk you are able to give him is great for him! stupid woman

Go with what you feel is good.

I personally gave up on trying to BF cos he wouldnt latch and it was upsetting me so much (I felt like a failure) and Ive been so much happier since formula feeding, I do express every now and then and give him that but he is mainly ff

  • It is definitely beneficial to mix feed! Good to see you on here, Gymfiend. Glad you and Guy are okay.

I agree that it would be a good idea to find a booby club. They can be very helpful.

Hello, just popping my head in the door & tentatively joining if I can :)

Our son arrived on March 25th a whole 17 days late, weighing 8lb 10oz. His name is Guy :)

Whilst I'm here can I ask a bit of advice too? We're trying to bf but he's really struggling with the latch and becomes so frustrated and angry and screams blue murder, til he then gives up and goes to sleep. I've been expressing and cup feeding but it's just not enough for him so I've given him some formula tonight (formula mixed with enough tears from me to fill a river!), is it beneficial to still carry on expressing and mixing? MW in the hospital told me this was stupid and I was just as well totally formula feeding if I was 'giving up' :(

Thanks & sorry for the me post, can't see when I'll ever have time to keep up with a thread again!x

Right - of course it is worth mix-feeding if you want to - every bit of breastmilk is goodness being passed on.

But really, you need to try and get your latch sorted. First thing in the morning get in touch with your MW or your HV or your local surestart centre and ask for help. Help is out there but you have to ask for it. If you have a local Booby Club (Breastfeeding Support Group) get there as soon as possible.

Don't let ANYBODY tell you that you have done wrong, and slap all feelings of 'shame' or 'giving up aside' - you CAN do this, I promise you, you just need some help to get there.

You will get tons of support here whether you carry on BF or not, we have one of every type (and more!!!!) but remember, the most important thing is that your little Guy is fed - and that is what being a good mummy is all about.

    And now I DEMAND a piccie ;)

gym - of course he loves looking at you your his mummy!
Am sure there is someone on here with flat nipples? Maybe nipple shields might work.

I have no idea mind, I started FF after a few days!

I would discuss those clots with the MW as it doesn't seem quite right to me. :)

MFD - I normally leave him about 30 secs and see if he settles as thats generally how long it takes for him to settle. If he's still moaning then I rush in before it gets to the crying stage, pop the dummy in and 9 times out of 10 he goes back off but sometimes I might have to do that 4 times in an hour.

He actually slept through on Friday night so am hoping he will again tonight.

Thanks Glam, I'm an emotional wreck :o I felt so pushed into bfing at hospital and he really struggled and screamed all night til the other women complained about me (so I could hear!!) then the MWs kept coming in and messing with me and him and my boobs, one grabbed one and said can't you do something about your flat nipples, no wonder he can't get on  Yes, I'll get nipple grafts! I feel so heartbroken that it's not working how I'd hoped/expected/planned and like I'm letting him down, firstly couldn't go into labour, then couldn't give birth naturally and now I can't even feed him myself :(

Baby is lovely though, he's beautiful and really alert, loves to look around and often sits staring at me! God knows why, I must look a mess :rotfl:

eta: Just going for a bath, OH has run it and been laughing at me because I'm so afraid to get in it and so afraid to go for a poo (we think I'll lose about a stone by the time I go!!) because of the cuts and stitches, I'm afraid my insides might fall out!! Also, is it normal to lose blood clots that looks like liver? I lost a massive one earlier and I wasn't sure, it's gross.

Yes, clots are normal, if they are bigger than a lemon (!!!!!!????) then you need to see someone. Look forward to lots of bleeding!!

And being scared to poop is normal too - hold kitchen towel against your stitches to help. And eat things to losen you up.

And don't be afraid to man handle your nipples, and your baby, to make it all fit. xxx

    I do try ;)

It reminds me, Benjamin and I went in the bath earlier and as I was getting him dried and dressed he decided to try out his vice-like pincer grip on my nipple :eek::eek::eek:

I moved his hand but I was laughing at the same time so he decided it was a game and he was coming towards me with both his 'pincers' going for my nipples - reminded me of his dad :rotfl::rotfl:

LOL! I thought it was if they're bigger than a 50p?

After i had DS i was losing chunks of placenta, i had to pull a piece out cos it was too big to pass on it's own lol, i thought my womb had prolapsed and i was about to rip it out. I don't think i ever did see anyone about that either lol!
