*hugs* to all the new moms. Just remember that you JUST GAVE BIRTH. You're going to be extremely tired, emotional, sore, and just generally lost feeling. Let your OH and family help as much as possible with the other things like nappies, making tea, etc. You just concentrate on loving baby and taking care of yourself. It's hard and everyone tells you that it gets easier - well, it does, I promise.

Thanks for that, I think thats part of my problem I seem to think I should be like superwoman and be able to do everything, when in fact I am still healing I had a pretty nasty tear and lost 800ml blood so am anemic as well and therefore very tired (I should really do a birth story)
I think I have decided to go with formula feeding and I have felt better today, I havent cried today (so far lol) so I think that was really playing on my mind,
The MW came to see me today and I said I was concerned about how much Elliot was eating cos in hosp he was having 60mls but the last feed he only took 30mls, and she suggested moving onto teat number 2's as she thinks the 1's might be making the milk come too slow and he is tiring himself out getting the milk out and falling asleep, does that seem possible, she did say they use 2's in the hosp so he is probably used to that.
If you guys make a bottle up say 4oz and baby only has 1oz what do you do with the other 3? do you just chuck it?
Also for those who boil kettle and fill bottles up then add formula as baby wants it how long do you keep those bottles with water in on the bench?

24 hours I keep the bottles of boiled water on the sideboard.
Move him to stage 2 teats, stage 1 are rubbish, far too slow.
make up 2oz bottles, when he finishes it, 3oz etc.0 -
KOAG - pleased you feel happier today.
I would throw the left over milk out. I know it's waste, but the milk isn't sterile after it's been used. Bacteria can grow quickly in milk and you don't want to give him a bad tummy. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Tara, what's the date?
We're discussing where to go for our week away tonight and Devon Cliffs/Exeter has been mentioned... :whistle:A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... but it is so easy to whizz up a 1oz bottle if he needs more! In SCBU they serve up milk in 20ml doses.. that is a faff!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

((hugs)) I think we have all been there hon...we give birth and think we can just be 'normal' again immediately....give it time and REST
I think I have decided to go with formula feeding and I have felt better today, I havent cried today (so far lol) so I think that was really playing on my mind,
Glad you feel better now you've decided

I always had that problem with all of my babies...falling asleep because it was such hard work sucking. I now just change straight to varuflow teats as baby then gets to decide what flow rate the milk comes out at.....but yes size 2's would probably be better for him....no harm in trying just keep the 1's in case the 2's are too fast! I like variflow fo rthis reason, no too fast/slow problem

Always throw it away straight away, it will gove him a bad tum if you give it him later on.
Also for those who boil kettle and fill bottles up then add formula as baby wants it how long do you keep those bottles with water in on the bench?
Only problem with this is that the powder isn't being sterilised when added to the water! But people who do it like this generally just pour out 4-6 bottles of water and leave it on the side (about a days worth)

You are doing well, the early days are the hardest and it will get easier I promise:)
I pretty much always make up 1oz more than they drink, once they are draining that then move up another oz...it does often mean chucking some away, but I could never be bothered with a screaming baby needing more while I faff about making it!Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0 -

Not if you haven't got a bottle steralised ready and waiting with the kettle boiled the right length of time ago to make it with! With a baby crying cos he wants a wee bit more!
Far easier to make more than needed and chuck some away if he leaves it.
Unless your talking about putting 1 oz fresh milk into the used bottle which is just ming.0
