something's bothering me a little so....

anyone who had a c-section, did you get to hold baby straight away??

when K was born they showed me him and then took him away. i didnt get to hold him for bout 40mins while they 'fixed' me up so DH, PIL and my mum all had held him before me. there was no mention in notes of any problem.... just plays on my mind a little as all the mums on OBEM who had c/s have held baby straight away. prob me being daft :(

Oh and I were talking about this last night. I didn't get to hold H straight away, and it was the same hospital (same theatre) as on OBEM. To be honest we've noticed a few things on the programme have been different to our experience or what we had been told at the hospital. For example Joy was given a labour room before she was in labout after her induction, but this didn't happen to me or any of the other ladies being induced with me. Also Leoni last night had four people with her, and I heard people getting told they were only allowed two with them when I was in. I do think there is a degree of leniency(sp?) for the cameras.

I was thinking (and wasn't going to write but hey ho :o) that I wouldn't mind hubby holding Benjamin before me (although would rather not!) but I my parents and PIL would pee me off :o

Perhaps, if you are feeling nice, worth suggesting to the ladies on the preg thread that they might want to consider putting something in their birth plans?

Please take my next bit with the hug that is intended to go with it:
Ultimately, you can't change it :o so you have to deal with it and move on. K will never need to know who held him first (and wouldn't even care if he did). YOU are his mummy, his only mummy and nothing can change that bond that the two of you have. You will be getting all the best cuddles for all of his childhood - so meh to the first 40 minutes. xxx

Hope all of that hasn't upset you.

I totally agree, MFD. I cried buckets when I couldn't hold H straight away or have skin to skin, but now it seems really insignificant and has caused us no problems with feeding or anything.

Yippee for EA's Lily arriving quickly and safely. Let's hope the other overdue babies follow suit soon.

Another thank you to Sami's Fairies

Oh, I almost forgot. I was talking to my best friend about OBEM earlier and she said that her friend at work told her all the ladies in it are drama queens and that it doesn't hur till you get to 8cm......I tried to diplomatically tell her that every woman is different but I think she's got a bit of a shock coming.

Also, if someone had been sitting tunelessly singing three lines from a hymn over and over again while I was contracting I'd have strangled them with my umbilical cord.

Just about to read back a bit but :rotfl: at SS's umbilical cord first!!

hey ladies wanted to say thanks for the chat about holding baby before anyone else. Its something that Ive worried about loads and only really told OH about, but might amend my birth plan now so that its re itterated to MWs etc if something god forbid doesnt go quite so straight forward, Im even feelin a lil antsy about bubs being man handled so much at visiting times!

Kindof - we bought the Fisherprice projector thingy instead of a mobile as figured it would have a longer life span. Obviously habvent got to use it for baby yet, but its all set up ready to go and is lovely.

I didn't have a CS but I was waiting around for about an hour while they faffed about doing other things and then doing my stitches before I got to hold Alice (although OH was holding her for quite a while). I had specified for her to be wrapped and then given to either of us but they decided it was improtant to do other things first like cut the cord and weigh her first. I am planning a watertightly worded birth plan next time.

I asked OH last week if watching OBEM brought back memories for him but he said he can't remember it that well anyway. When they did the epidural last week, I asked him if he'd seen them sticking the needle in my back when they did mine and he said, "Oh, did you have an epidural?"
Now she is sitting beside me wailing every couple of seconds about her "blood"
I thought about Keira this afternoon because Alice was helping me make marmalade and was putting her hand rather too near where I was chopping with the sharp knife for my liking. I said to her, "What will happen if your finger goes under my knife?" and she said, "It will be bleed."

Feeling like a guilty mummy today tho cos i accidentally clipped her finger with nail clippers when trimming her nails this morning . it seems tiny and i didn't notice at first cos she didn't react but then it took ages to stop bleeding :embarasse :embarasse :embarasse
I was so scared of doing that that I made OH do nail cutting. Alice was two before I ever did it myself.

  • Som- I have actually found that most people will wait for me to offer them a cuddle of Henry, rather than just go in for the grab! Even family and close friends, so you might find that there's nothing to worry about at visiting time. If I don't want anyone to hold him I just say, 'oh he's just settled' or 'he's a bit upset at the moment, I think he needs his mum' etc to put them off. I know some people probably think I am a bit neurotic and selfish but I don't care!

looking for specific mobile recommendations...not something too annoying that will take him from now until he's older (so entertaining AND soothing - is that possible?). Are you usually able to isolate sound/movement? (like have it moving without the sound). I am woefully clueless!!
