Boo - *picks herself up off the floor* Hadn't realised it was a 10am start *faints again* but no problem re picking you up. Just let me know which station and me and J will be there.

I know! Far too early, me and Isla may have to sleep in our clothes to leave on time! Is 9.30 at Central station ok? I can be there earlier/later if needed, I'm not sure how far it is from there to the sling meet.

It's not really that that !!!!ed me off about what SM said. Any time salarys/houses/cars are mentioned theres always a comment about *wishing* or *dreaming* about having it.
I didn't wish or dream for what I have, I worked for it. I'm sick of feeling like I have to justify it.
I know you didn't mean it this way but the implication of stating that you earn x amount of money because you work hard is that people who earn less just aren't working hard enough. Just because someone aspires to have such a high income as yours and "dreams" about it does not mean that they begrudge you it or think you don't deserve it. When we bought our house last year I'm fairly sure that some people said that it was something that they could only dream of but for us the idea of owning our own home was only a dream for a number of years so I took it that they were dreaming the same way we had. Yes we managed our finances very carefully (and probably have a significantly lower income than most of the people who are still dreaming) but I am sure that they are aware that if one wishes to own a house that it will require prioritisation over other things and that the time it takes will depends upon one's abilities and circumstances so I didn't fell that it was necessary to point it out. I took it that people were happy for me to have acheived that dream and were dreaming of the day when they would realise it as opposed to being jealous and wanting it to be handed to them on a plate. I hope that makes sense - I'm not telling you that you were wrong to feel the way you did, I'm just trying to point out that comments are probably not meant in the way that you have taken them.

ETA I hope that doesn't come off as a big rant as it isn't intended to.

I just don't get it, I wish I knew how it was worked out because I'd have worked out for myself and would know it was wrong from the start!
They do give all the figures on the HMRC website - I always calculate mine.
    2009/10
    Reduction threshold 6420
    Reduction rate 39%
    WTC basic element 1890.70
    Second adult element 1861.50
    30 hr element 777.45
    CTC family element 547.5
    Child element 2237.45
Baby addition element was similar to child element when we qualified.
There's also a higher threshold for reduction but it doesn't apply to us so don't have details.

the first day in weeks I have time to pop in and see this - you lot are geniuses! Count me in!

Dad's funeral was on Thursday and we had a lovely service and bloomin good send off for him in his local with dozens of his friends and I then spent some time with family this weekend.

hoping to get some normality back into our lives from this week - magically we got to the top of the baby massage list at the local sure start centre so start that this afternoon for 5 weeks, bliss, and aqua tomorrow morning. just need to find something for Thursday and Friday now!

And finally, a small rant about our perceptions of salaries and location. London weighting is a rubbish concept that doesn't work. The "weight" on my salary is nowhere near the extra cost it is to live here...for instance, I might make a couple thousand more per year, but just for rent alone I pay practically double what I could pay for a similar place in, say, Sheffield. You could argue this is "choice", but it's soooo hard to get out because you have to save up money to move plus be able to find a job with the right timing, something which we dream about but know we may not be able to do for another year or several.

Sorry, that last little rant was off-topic but I wanted a moan :).
I remember reading when I was a student that graduate jobs in London were the worst paid and graduate jobs in the north east were the best paid once you took into account the cost of living rather than looking at the raw figures. (Neither of my jobs were graduate jobs though even though they required a graduate.)

SS - I haven't forgotten about the tattoo piccie. I'll take one just for you (as soon as I've painted my toe nails :o)

central is fine & that time is fine. I shall be early for once

nice boots! I need some shoes for work - its all I need to get now & maybe some nice trousers. MIL gave me a pair of Laura Ashley trousers in an 8 (they were off a friend & MIL is a 14) but they need taking up cos they are about 3 inches too long!
Also not sure they will suit me as they are high waisted & I'm just a shortie :o

Where does the time go?

    Morning lovlies :D
Glam I think you are being muchos wise this morning, I totally agree that being a nosey cow helps at work also I'm a total know it all show off who can't hold her mouth so if anyone asked a question I'd answer it even when they didn't ask me (although one boss I had used to find this very annoying whoops!)

I don't see it as luck either Its a bit of destiny/fate IMO :) like I too was in a temp job and got offered a permanent one while there, possibly lucky BUT if I hadn't put on my "I'm great" show and been offering to do extras in the crappy job I wouldn't have been offered the better ft perm position.

Also what is good for one isn't always for another, the only job I've not been offered after an interview (shines perfect badge :p) was because I was apparently over confident (aka arrogant) because I had said I could do all the tasks they'd said I would be given and I'd said how I wanted to work towards being a manager. but this was the reason I was offered the job at the next interview I had, my boss said she liked that I was confident and self assured and she was very happy when I started and could do everything I'd said I could :A
