Depends on the child and the school route - I did in Reception but there were no roads, it was 5 minutes walk and my mum could watch the school gate from an upstairs window to make sure I'd got there.

I think Lydia is a lovely name, but you know the way names get associations? Someone I worked with had a child of that name who was such a monster that it always makes me think of her
It goes very well with Alice too.

Vegetable patches are excellent ideas for everyone but not an instant fix to what might be an instant problem. I know the UK only imports 1% of stuff, but the 1% comprises all the nonseasonal veg. We're already noticing a price hike here - bell peppers are now €3 for a bag of three as opposed to 80c.

Actually, if people have gardens it might not be such a bad idea to plant stuff or build a little glasshouse. OH had a spell of insomnia during the night and came in stressing because apparently the small volcano normally triggers the bigger one next door and if that's so we're looking at six months' disruption at least. Apparently the eruption of the two volcanoes was a precipitating cause of the French Revolution because it caused the French crop harvest to fail.

Alice is a lovely name.. but I already have an 'A'.. actually we have 2 as OH is 'A' as well.. I usually have a name or 3 in mind by now but I am really struggling with this one.. and I asked the children for ideas.. so we have Zelda, Starjiggy, Scoobydoo, Vlad, Droobleface and Link to choose from... I think they weren't very helpful!!!

I was going to get one of those bath seats for H when he is old enough my friends has one and she says it's good but what put me off is one little boy got stuck in his i think he tried to put both legs though one gap and he couldn't get free. In the end the fire brigade had to cut him out. I can't remember where i saw it. I think it was on the news. The woman complained to the company for poor design but i don't think she got very far with them.

Walking to school: I lived across the road from my primary school but mum prob still took me over. I was allowed to walk once at high school over a mile away so i was 11-12 yrs

There is a boy a few doors away from us that goes on his own and he is 9, again it is about a mile away, seems to take me forever sometimes. There are 2 main roads but have several crossings. Still i don't think i would let my boys go at 9 too many alleys and such.

I am off to my first parent and baby group today. It starts at 10 but i don't want to be the first there so i will go in a bit. I am a bit nervous. Wish i could have gone sooner as ds2 is 4 months now but he just hasn't been well enough. There is something about mondays that he likes to go into hospital. I make some new friends.

Lucky you Beenie, William is being a pain at night at the moment. He had a bottle at 8ish, so I dream fed him at 12 and then he woke at 5.30 which is a real pain... really want to start feeding a bit better for when I go back to work in a couple of weeks... think the dream feed is not a good idea at the moment with him waking around that time... any ideas?

Csh you could be right lol but he is surprisingly patient with her, she'll be screaming and he'll just be singing her songs and trying to show her toys and stuff to calm her down, and it takes him ages before he gets fed up lol he's such a lovely big bro.

Maz a few people have said the dream feed makes them wake earlier.

I've never tried getting Amber in any kind of routine, i just let her go to bed when she wants whether it be 9pm or 1am, and she's always slept til morning. I think it's time to try getting a bit of routine going here though. If i put her to bed at 7pm like some people do, she wouldn't sleep through, so later works for me.

Not surprised, misuse isn't technically a design fault. DD wedged a roll of sellotape onto her chubby little thigh and had to sit in a bath of water til it went soft and I could manipulate it off. I never complained to anyone

Don't be nervous, you'll be fine! I never started going regularly to any groups til K was 3/4 mths (apart from massage) cos I find it too boring before then. I waited til he was able to interact with other babies and play on the mat and stuff and a few others were the same. There are a few cliques at ours but nothing major. Good luck!
On that note I better shift as I need to be at the church for half 10!

Later works for us too Beenie. Rhys has a bottle at 9.30-10pm then goes to bed and sleeps until 8am-ish Sometimes earlier if he's woken up by OHs alarm but we need to sort out the lighting in his room (aka me find his lamp ) then we can close his bedroom door so he'll hear less
