I will dig through my letters later and see what days the appts are on, I think I have a Monday, Wednesday and Friday appts and parents evening on Tuesday and Thursday, but they are after school anyway! So I think I might actually be free Tuesday:) I will double check and report back later xxUnless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

You can do self employed work if you claim SMP. It's mentioned here: http://www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-guides/technical-guidance/ni17a-a-guide-to-maternity/statutory-maternity-pay-smp/working-in-your-maternity-pay/
If you claim Maternity Allowance, you can't do any work, be it employed or self employed without it affecting your benefit.
I think that's unfair to be honest, especially as an employed woman finishes SMP and pops straight back into a waged job. A self employed woman finishes MA and then has some weeks/months of reduced earnings as she has to build her business back up. But it's good news for Glam though
You will need to register as self employed, keep accounts and do a tax return. If you are paying NI in your main job, claim exemption when you ring up and you won't have to pay NI. If you ring the newly self employed helpline (number on www.hmrc.gov.uk) they will sort it all out for you. They are lovely people and really helpful.
Been to uni and my head is spinning now. Next essay is looking at strategy and when and why things go wrong. Going to research Northern Rocks lending policy and see if I can pull together what they intended and what went wrong. Here I go again on my own....0 -
