  • I've decided to treat myself to some internet shopping as I haven't even started shopping for Christmas yet! Both sets of parents and OH and I will probably be concentrating on baby, so there won't be much to wrap. And my parents are coming here and cooking everything so that will be minimised too. Oh well, I have a friend coming round for lunch in a bit so will go and make some scones. And I might make an appointment to get my eyebrows waxed for tomorrow - something else to save time on!

Annoyingly, I didn't have any stretch marks at all - up until yesterday, when I noticed a couple of purple lines appearing. Anyone else find it really hard to see under the bump - might have to add a bikini wax to the above! (OUCH at this stage!)

Also, the midwife reckoned at the 39 week check that baby was about 8 1/2 lbs - I'm now anxiously trying to calculate final weight given that they put on about an oz a day...!
Can't quite believe that this baby WILL arrive this side of Christmas somehow! Thanks for all your tips!

    Hi!

I hope this isn't an inappropriate thing to do, but I have some baby clothes to offer to anyone who could use them!

They are 2 outfits from Mothercare for size 'tiny baby' - up to 7.5lbs/3.4kg - with Thomas The Tank Engine on them. Each outfit is a t-shirt (one red, one green) with a thomas picture and a pair of shorts that are dark blue with the corresponding colour (red or green!) trim. They are in very good condition and look like they've hardly been worn.

I have attempted to ebay them with no luck, I can send the auction link in a pm if you want to see the pics but I don't want to post it here. Please don't think I'm trying to promote my auction... its finished now and I have no intention to relist!

I hope that someone will get some use out of them, either now or to add to their stuff for when baby arrives - or knows someone who could use them.

First to pm me gets them!!

If I have no takers they'll have to go to the charity shop!

Hi Guys I just wanted your opinion on drinking during pregnancy.

With my first child I didn't drink throughout the pregnancy.

I am now 16 weeks and I had a glass of wine yesterday but it made me feel sleepy.

I was reading a post in a chat room today and most of the women was saying that you shouldn't drink at all.

Even though the medical people say 1 unit on oddd occaisions doesn't hurt.

    What's your opinion?
  • Personally I don't drink anyway but if I did, I would quite happily have the occasional drink during pregnancy and I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm sure the "official" advice says that you can drink a little bit so I wouldn't feel bad about it just because some people have made a different choice to you. It's probably a good thing I don't drink if it makes you sleepy as I'm sleepy enough without!

I had an occasional drink while I was expecting my last two and it didn't do any harm. I wouldn't drink more than 1 drink though, and I didn't have spirits - just a glass of wine or beer.

I'm pregnant now and looking forward to a glass of wine on Christmas Day :D

I don't really drink anyway.....and haven't drunk any alcohol since the start of this pregnancy. All you can do is what you think is right for you and your child. If you listened to all the 'advice' you'd end up going round in circles for 9 months.

It's frustrating isn't it. Thought i had got away with having stretch marks but they appeared about 2 weeks before Libby was born. Although i think they may have appeared before but i couldn't see under the bump!
  • Official advice for drinking in pregnancy in UK is 1-2 units 1-2 times per week.

In America official advice is to abstain and have no alcohol.

Red wine is supposed to be good as it helps circulation etc..

I have had the occassional drink when out at a party or out for a meal but it does make me sleepy so haven't had it too often. I have found alcohol free becks to be a godsend though... they taste ok and makes me feel like I am drinking when at a social event... there is only so much coke or fruit juice one person can drink!!!

I don't think so. SMP and MA are both based on recent National Insurance contributions, which you won't have paid if you are a SAHM.
