  • I've been invited for a meal at a friends this weekend and am a bit nervous that people will suspect I'm pregnant when I don't drink. I could probably get away with it once or twice, but then I think people would guess. OH says I should have a couple of bottles of no alcohol lager and no-one will notice, but I don't particularly want to drink that anyway, or else I could have orange juice and pretend there's vodka in it! They want to arrange a weekend away for a few of us who are friends. We're going to say that we're not going for the weekend, which will involve nights in the pub. We're saying that we're saving up, which is true. We've been invited out on bonfire night too and I think friends will definitely get suspicious. We don't want to tell anyone our news until I'm around 12 weeks which will be Christmas time, but I don't want to lie to people in the meantime. I'm happy to stay in on a weekend, but it will be difficult to avoid everyone for the next two months. Has anyone any advice?

You could be on antibiotics or other medication that means you have to avoid drink ;)

You'll have to think of something suitable that people won't pry too much about though.
Here I go again on my own....

I used the antibiotics excuse and people were ok.
When I eventually told them at 12 weeks a few people said I thought you was as you'd been acting really strange and seem to be very sleepy all the time.

Due to go in for c-section on Monday, bag packed, and have Always heavy duty night time super duper pads at the ready. Went for a pre-op appointment yesterday and the woman advised that I should have maternity pads and that normal ones won't suffice.

From memory, when I had DD, I found very little difference between the 2. Can anyone who has had a c-s recently advise on whether I need to get the maternity ones or can I make do? Can't really be bothered to make a special trip to get some if they aren't really needed.

    Ta.

Didn't have a c-section but i had the always maxi ones - i think they recommend the maternity pads as they don't have a plastic/sticky backing which can irritate.

    Good luck for monday

I've got some maternity ones, but I'm also going to get some of the maxi ones too. Either as extra protection, or just in case they can cope with the flow.

My advice is you can't have too many! The blood loss can go on for upto 6 weeks, at first it's quite a lot and then it settles down. Mine settling now after about 4 weeks (sorry TMI)

    Hi ladies

Little distraction for you this afternoon. Take a look at the chart on this link

    http://www.babyexpert.co.uk/newsletters/genderchart.html

It's supposed to predict whether you'll have a boy or a girl based on how old you were and what month you conceived. I'm 27 and conceived on holiday in Goa in March (hence we call the bump India - Goa would have been a bit cruel!)

We'd really like a girl, no reason. Although we'll be perfectly happy with a healthy anything!

Anyone got their little bundle of joy and can comment on its accuracy?

I'm on the countdown now. Just 4 weeks left in the office (I freelance Thurs/Fri which is what I'm doing today). I want to work up until 2 weeks before my date, for money reasons as I don't get maternity pay from my freelance work. I'll be doing this from home though and perhaps just 3/4 days a week. If it's too much, I'll stop.

I'm planning on the baby being late - due date is 22 December, so would quite like to have one last Xmas day just the two of us. I'll let you know if I start to feel different once I get to the beached whale stage!!

Please feedback about the chart, not sure how it's been compiled but it's pretty interesting!

  • Hiya Everyone.

Thought i would pop back in to say hello now i am back at home. We spent the first week at hospital because of a number of silly health niggles with me and the baby. We still need to pop back to hospital for another blood test and may get readmitted, but fingers crossed we won't.

I have to say, that i must have been quite naive as the birth wasn't what i thought it would be like. I wish i had gone to some of the parentcraft classes and been more informed about pain relief.

Little charlie was lying on his side, rather than how he should (i have dark hair if that fits the theory) , so we ended up with a venteuse and forceps delivery after 27 hours of labour. I'm still shattered from the lack of sleep in hospital. I got so tired, DH was amused because i managed to fall asleep between contractions that were only a couple of minutes apart.

I should also say, as soon as he was born, i forgot everything i had gone through, and was only concerned with him. He is a gorgeous little thing, who is sleeping very well for a breast-fed baby who has been treat like a pincushion for the past week.

Will get round to posting a picture of him at some point. He has loads of dark hair like me, but otherwise is a dead ringer for my husband. He is already spoilt to death.

Congrats to anyone joining us, and a big hug from me to caleo. I hope you are feeling ok and it isn't too long before you are pregnant again.

    Hugs to everyone,
    Michelle, xx

Congrats Michelle on the safe arrival of little Charlie.

    27 hours, well done you!

Take a look at the link above and tell us whether your little boy fits the theory.

Good luck with the sleeping (you, not baby) - it's what I'm dreading most!
