I'm going to see my midwife tomorrow (I'm 33 weeks) and I'm supposed to have done my birth plan, and yet here I am with an empty page in front of me. It's like I'm denying the birth is going to happen. Has anyone else felt like that at all? I haven't packed a hospital bag, or done much of anything to prepare for the baby for the last few weeks. It's either laziness (probably) or fear! :o

Glad you feel a bit happier. Fingers crossed for Thursday.

I'm waiting in this afternoon for my midwife coming to write my birth plan and check out my bedroom etc., as I'm hoping for a home delivery.

She should have come yesterday afternoon, but got called away on an emergency, so I've had the job rejuggling to do too!

im really keen on a home birth, but somehow i dont think either my GP would be thrilled with the idea. i live in northern ireland and dont know anyone who has had a home birth - i would imagine they will say that midwives are too thin on the ground for me to have one. do you have a supportive GP? or how did you go about this?

I've developed good old porridge brain, so am thankful that there are not too many 'job' going around. I work full time too, so am not looking at the MS sites as often now.

On last MS job was almost a disaster. Got a receipt automatically and thought, oh good, don't need to ask, only to discover at home that it was just the order confirmation.

Nevertheless it has been approved. The food was lovely but I ate with long teeth.

ummm..i left work early today as not feeling to good had hot flushes ect ect..am 37 weeks so taking no risks now!
so whilst at home relaxing on my sofa reading heat magazine..i got a call from one of my sales managers..(i look after 40 reginal sales managers!)
I had done some work for him last week and had put my home telephone number on the compliments slip instead of my work number...!!!!!!!!!!!
luckily he was just calling to say what a great job i had done for him..
    felt very stupid ...

Have a read of www.homebirth.org This gives good background information to decide if it is for you or not.

I've never seen my GP in connection with the pregnancy. I've been mainly under midwife only care, and most of the appointments are with the same midwife at my GP's surgery. I asked her for a home birth and she is very supportive. It will be one of the community midwives that deliver the baby - not the ones who work in the hospital.

I've been seen at the hospital once. I had a gynae op in 2002, so they wanted me to be under consultant care too. The hospital are very negative towards home births, so you have to be quite strong and speak up, otherwise they will push you into a hospital birth. My midwife commented on this too!

Not many women do have babies at home and you are not told unless you ask, but the choice is there if you want to take it, subject to both you and baby being fit and healthy. If there are any signs of complications, you'll be taken into hospital for obvious reasons.

I'd rather be at home in my own surroundings. It think it will be more relaxed and comfortable, and I'm looking forward to being tucked up in my bed afterwards with my new baby, hubby and my other children around me.
Here I go again on my own....

I've got that too. Hubby has started writing me lists and notes, as I keep saying "oh yes I can do that", then I forget all about it :o

Not sure about porridge, but concentration is definitely poor. I'm starting to think I shouldn't be driving anymore - I catch myself thinking thoughts like 'ooh, that was close', 'will I hit that curb?', 'am I still on the right side of the road' Totally absentmindedly. And whilst some ingrown ability is getting me round safely, I sincerely doubt my ability to react to 'surprises'...
