I haven't used any creams. Stretchmarks are part and parcel of pregnancy, and they fade to silvery lines in time, so not as noticeable. I just live with mine rather than spend money on expensive creams.

I do rub ordinary body lotion over my tummy after I've had a bath/shower, but that's more because I find my skin goes dry and itchy as it stretches, and it helps with that.
Here I go again on my own....

I think they tend to say stretch marks are hereditary, so whether you get them is more likely to depend on your own mum's expereiences than how much you spend on a particular cream :j (Said smugly as someone who's mum's not got any!! Seems to be holding true so far, as I'm 38 +2 now and no sign of any, although I have heard people say they can suddenly appear in the last couple of weeks, so won't stop crossing my fingers just yet! ;) )

Another smug one here - 2 babies and no stretchmarks and I didn't use any creams whatsoever. My mate used every cream she could lay her hands on and her belly looks like the London underground map (her words not mine!) - so I guess it's all in those genes. Don't waste your money.

Although when I joined the Boots parenting club they gave you vouchers for their own Botanics range and I got a big tub of some very luxurious gunge for free which I believe said it helped prevent them - never got round to using it though  - perhaps Boots still give them out?

Re the stretchmarks I am very surprised. But I suppose it makes sense, as skin doesn't absorb from the outside. Just read something about you might be safe if you've had a great diet of vit AEC all your life  . I'm not sure my mum got them, and she did put on 26kgs!! I'll check it out. Anyhow, I already have some on my thighs due to weight gain in my teens... The more the merrier.

At only 10+2 I went clothes browsing and came across a maternity range... so had a quick try. Normal size 18 hanging off me, but the 16 was a perfect fit! Over the tummy too! How fat am I?? Purely fat though, no growth yet, don't worry...

Can I start 'shopping' when I'm twelve weeks? The carboot season starts soon...:o

I'd gained fat on my tummy (as opposed to a "proper" bump) at that stage despite having actually lost weight. I think I did read somewhere that you gain fat in certain places ready for the baby's growth in the third trimester. I just wish it hadn't taken the fat from my fingers as I can't wear my wedding/engagement rings now and I can't get them shrunk yet as my husband is convinced that all pregnant women's fingers get bigger so will have to wait for baby to arrive. I think he imagines that one day I will wake up with fingers which have doubled in size!

I think it's generally recommended to wait till after the 3 month mark as the first three months are the main danger period for miscarriage. I guess the only other danger of starting to buy stuff early is that you could get carried away. Personally I waited till about 5 months before I started actually buying stuff as I didn't want to buy things which we might be lent or given by other people. We managed to aquire quite a bit from friends/relatives/freecycle before buying anything and I contented myself with spending hours researching everything on the internet. :o (Was worth it though as I got quite a few bargains and there's no way I could have managed trawling shops or car boot sales or anything.) I'm now 7 months and we've pretty much got everything we need for the first six months except that we only have newborn clothes as I figure we'll probably be given clothes once the baby is born. Am now trying to resist the temptation to buy a year's worth of cotton wool and wipes! Sorry that's quite a rambling answer to your question - got a bit carried away!
