I was trying to get fish oils capsules suitable for the last trimester of pregnancy late last year, and the pharmacist in Boots tried to sell me multivitamins with fish oils added - but which also contained Vitamin A. He knew I was already taking pregnacare, and Vitamin A is now contraindicated in pregnancy. Needless to say I didn't buy the ones he was suggesting, but it worried me that a qualified pharmacist didn't know that. (And he was a pharmacist, not an ordinary staff member)
I've found that pharmacists aren't very good on vitamins as they're not used to them and they don't always have a book to tell them what to recommend - I had a similar conversation when I was asking if I could still take evening primrose oil and in the end it was me reading the packets and deciding rather than the helpful but woeful pharmacist.

BTW Mumomega are the biz - you could also take eye-q as they're not made from fish liver but their Momomega has higher levels of the right dha or whatever it is that's good for the third trimester. It's expensive but I really rate it having seen the difference in my hair and nails since taking it I can't see how it can't do baby good.

    Thanks Justie

I spoke to Midwife earlier, who says to keep fluids up ensure, flush out any bad. Get on all fours and rotate back to ease pain, so am going to give that a go. It's defintely not in pelvis as I had problems there last time. Isn't it great eh, every pregnancy I find something new to moan about, ha ha. I'm actually really lucky. I feel great apart from the pain in back and that's recent so overall not a bad pregnancy.

Hope it works and if it doesn't speak to your GP - my experience is that Midwives are very helpful but are less keen to say take this or that painkiller.

God you guys are having a wild time of it! Vitamins are a difficult thing, because they're not really drugs as such and there's so much research going on it must be really tough for pharmacists and doctors to stay in touch with new developments. I agree with the point about older pharmacists though, more recently qualified pharmacists are more likely to be up to date and taught more applied pharmacy.

Also, all hail acupuncture - doesn't seem to make any difference to me but a qualified practitioner (ie go get a recommendation or referral from your doc, some practices even provide their own service) will be able to treat you without any drugs and many people respond really well to this. I can vouch for those with needle phobias (and I include myself) that mostly you don't even feel it going in, it's so sharp and tiny - and I have had it done, and also perform it myself!

While we're on the subject of pregnancy ailments, I've had weird upper abdomen pain for the last few weeks which obviously has got better since I made a doctor's appointment, but she thinks it might be a kidney problem *eek* and my BP's skyrocketing (nothing new there) so just something else to worry about. Sometimes this baby's arrival seems sooooooo far away!

On a happy note, I am as sure as I can be that I felt it move properly for this first time this morning - woohoo!

Re bleeding in early pregnancy: although it's actually answering a different question, this link does give some kind of possible explanation.

I had a phlebotomist take my blood who had no idea about the blood volume increasing in pregnancy  . Imagine what the average GP doesn't know!

Can anyone help me please? My doggie had a few 'accidents' this morning in the kitchen and I can't clean it up. Gagging too much. Is there any way to stop this? I've never been this sensitive before, and although I have not been sick in this pregnancy, I suppose there are some boundaries not to be crossed... Failing all that I suppose I should just go walkies and let hubby sort it out at lunch... Gross.

oh no I had a similar problem a few weeks ago - luckily I'm so bunged up most of the time that it didn't penetrate unless I actually got down and had a proper nose full... how about a few drops of peppermint oil on a hanky? Or something equally stinky but in a nice way?

Otherwise I'd go out and let hubby deal with it ;)

Congrats Charlotte - lovely news :T

Did you do anything to prevent being stitched? I was just reading something yesterday that said rubbing olive oil on your perineum from 34 weeks helps it stretch better, and I was wondering if it worked :o

I think that its down to the fact that she was my fourth - so I am rather "stretched" down there already!

I did pay attention to my pelvic floor muscles this time round though, so perhaps that helped?

I've been suffering wityh terrible lower back pain which I am sure is a trapped nerve.

If you speak to the midwife again, ask her to refer you for physio. Pregnant ladies jump the queue and are seen quite quickly (well they are here anyway!)

I've got SPD which is pelvic pain. I spoke the midwife on a Wednesday, and the physio dept phoned on the Friday to arrange an appointment for the following week.
Here I go again on my own....
