And yes, I went 10 days over with my first and with second had an elective section at 40 weeks plus 2 days (gave her a chance to come naturally but wasn't really having twinges even - I'm sure she'd have stayed put a good while longer if she'd had her way).

Did your first come of her own accord at term+10 or were you induced? Hope you dont mind my asking. I'm just on tenter hooks waiting for a sign! Partly that and because my mum is very very sick and I'd like her to know we are okay before she leaves this life. I probably would have sounded less like a neurotic newbie mum if Id mentioned that in my earlier post.

Sorry to hear about your mum LB, how sad. My first came of her own accord - I had the induction booked but never needed the appointment. Contractions started at 40+7 but little minx didn't actually put in an appearance until 40+10 and even then it had to be an emergency section to get her to come out

I know how frustrated you feel but your baby will be here very soon :D
and you too can join the getting-up-in-early-hours club - it's fab :rotfl:

Can I ask you ladies. Did you go over with your 1st? I'm 6 days over today and going quietly insane. Not only do we want to meet our beautiful baby but OH has been told he is to start new job on April 1st (Oh yikes thats April fools day.. only just realised..), New job is 3 hours drive away and we have to find a new house and move. Did any of you not experience any of the usual signs of labour and just go straight into it? x

I was seven days overdue with my first and I didn't really have any warning.
My waters brokes and labour started and 7 hours later I had my baby boy.

I hope I'm not overdue this time.

I was 2 weeks overdue with DS (he only came out then because he was induced), really hoping this one will be on time! Apparently induction is quicker but more painful because your body doesn't have time to build up the endorphins to help with the labour pain. I've nothing to compare it to though so I couldn't say if it's true or not.

    Okay, need more advice.
For the past week or so I've been sensing pressure at the bottom of my spine - lower back. I suppose it goes away when lying down or standing up, but sitting here I can feel it. Hand sized pulling pressing pressure. Anything to do with 9+4 pregnancy?
I've never had back problems before...

When you get a midwife, are they available? Can you call them up with these little quieries? Or is it like your GP - appointment only, call NHS direct if it's urgent?

oops pressed thanks instead of quote

you can usually speak to your midwife team (if they're busy they'll call you back) our GP gave up the pregnancy notes folder that has a list of phone numbers or phone the hospital and they'll put you through.

There will be lots of changes to your back etc as things move around and the progesterone softens your ligaments and so things that didn't used to hurt can suddenly hurt. I have back problems anyway and have had real problems with my pelvis and various bits of my back since about 8 weeks. You may need to change your posture, you may need to put your feet up when sitting, have a pillow under your legs when lying etc. You may also feel pulls in your abs as the uterus moves down into place (it felt like I was tensing my abs when I wasn't) and other strange things. Your GP or midwife are likely to say it's normal take paracetamol if it hurts and you may find heat helps but if you're worried ask anyway.

your body is no longer your own ;)

My midwife gave me a number for the midwives team at the hospital and said I could call anytime I had a question and they would advise me where to go from there.

The NHS direct could also tell you what they think it could be and advise you if you need to seek medical help.

If you call your GP and say you are pregnant they normally try to see you on the same day aswell.

If your in alot of pain I'd go to the GP. If it's not that bad call your midwife and see what she reccomends.

Sorry to hear about your mum, lush. But you really are nearly there - it really could happen at any moment, and there isn't always a sign, it could just start happening! Good luck :)

The lansinoh breast pads are fantastic. I used to soak through 4 or more boots own brand ones during a feed, and only used 1 lansinoh all day! I have bought them for this time round too. Also - they are so much thinner than "normal" pads - we have enough indignities to deal with, without sanitary pads in our bras as well as our knickers!!!!!!!!:p :o
Yep, I agree 100%. :D I forgot to mention how thin and absorbent they are - very good point. :)
