  • Teerah, I sympathise. I've been having them constantly for 2 and a half weeks. It's called irritable uterus. Sometomes they hurt, mostly they don't. Last night I had a couple od hours where they were quite string and 6 minutes apart. Now they're every 15 mons or so.

If they get closer together, or feel stronger, get checked out...you might be getting into the real thing!:j
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

    Hi everyone.
Back from the skiing, all in one piece, hopefully all okay with the baby. My dad can't understand how I'm almost 6 weeks pregnant already.
Am worried that I have no symptoms. I felt sick when I found out for two days, and my boobs were slightly tender, especially going over bumpy icy bits. But now I'm back home, I feel great, boobs back to normal.
I have my first appointment with the doc tomorrow and have no idea what to expect (she won't even be doing any blood tests as I need another appointment with the nurse for that). What will she want for me?

Agutka - I didn't bother with the doc's appointment with either of my pregnancies as friends told me that it was a kind of "have you done a pregnancy test? yes? congratulations" type thing. Then they tell you to make an appointment with the midwife. So I just made first appointments with the midwife at around the 10-12 week stage.

Perhaps your doctor will be a bit more hands on?! But my advice would be to not expect much other than an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

doc wont do anything other than type on your notes that your are pregnant. or in my case refer me for a scan after last preg was a mc.
today i have my 1st midwife appoinment im really nervous seems more real now! its 2 weeks since my scan it seems ages ago now, im still sick most days and if not im feeling sick so staying positive (mostly!)
    roll on dating scan...
im 9 and half weeks now and time is dragging by!
  • When you see the doctor, he can also give you a thing to send off for getting free prescriptions and dental treatment.

Edit: Also if you are on any medication you need to check with doctor that it is ok while pregnant. My doctor changed my hayfever medication when I saw him.

So they don't bother confirming it??
Hmm. Sounds like I may be more confused afterwards than ever... I was hoping for some sort of reassurance. I guess I'll just wait for the bump to grow  .
I wish I was one of those women who finds out she's pregnant really late. This waiting is very weird.

No, ours don't confirm it. My mum thought that was really weird as apparently they used to. That's why so many going for scans will say something about wanting to make sure there is something in there - as you say, it's quite easy and understandable to start doubting it if you feel ok and aren't changing shape dramatically. Some friends expanded immediately they were pregnant, but I didn't really grow at all first time around until I was into the second trimester.

ps don't tempt fate by talking about not feeling sick. If it kicks in with a vengeance in a week or so, you'll be kicking yourself ;) - the voice of experience here! Think I remember reading that the sickness often starts at around 7 weeks - did with me.

I had very few symptoms at that stage - just my boobs felt different and I didn't want certain foods - the morning sickness etc kicked in later. The GP will do nothing - there's no point doing another pregnancy test as home kits are so accurate now and unless you've had problems in the past there's no reason for any medical intervention at all. My first confirmation of any sort was my scan at 11 weeks and I'll see the midwife for my booking appointment in another couple of weeks. So different to friends who had trouble conceiving who had scans etc at every possible stage. It makes it no less worrying though even if you have loads of scans etc though and there's no guarantees that all will be well but the vast majority of pregancies are healthy so enjoy feeling well while you can and relax and let your body do its thing. The Gp will give you your book of notes probably which you'll take to all your appointemnts with the midwife and will set about the process of referring you to the midwife team. You should take the opportunity to ask any questions. Check on any drugs you take or activities you do etc and that's it.

I know!! I knew as soon as I wrote it that I was asking for trouble! :p
I'll just go and eat like crazy while I can...hmmm...what do I fancy?...

Maybe I should do the housework while I can...

It's going to be a nightmare explaining to Mother that this is normal for GPs to just let you get on with it. In her day they had all sorts of tests to make sure you were fit and healthy. Just what I want, her nagging for me to change GPs! (My parents have already been egging me on to have wine - good for you, alcohol - try a bit, seafood, soft cheeses, pates - what do you mean you can't! Rubbish! 'in my day....' Thank goodness the 'holiday' is over)

I'd recommend keeping everything as up to date as possible and doing things like going out for meals while you can. I was ill from fairly early on and was unable to go out for a meal through the whole of September through to December. My poor husband didn't get taken out for his birthday meal till January (his birthday is October) and I'm kicking myself for not getting ahead with housework as he's still having to do all of that.

Does anybody know where is a good place to get mattresses from? We've been lent a cot and given a Moses basket so just need to get mattresses for them.
