SPD: Just a note to anyone suffering with SPD.
I had it during my last pregnancy (daughter now 20 mnths) and it never really went away although it got milder. am now 6 mnths pregnant with number 2 and was in agony since 12 weeks, having weekly physios and waking up some mornings unsure if i'd be able to get out of bed and look after my daughter. on boxing day we decided to take advantage of sales and bought a new bed which is a memory mattress at just the right height so when i sit on edge my knees are bent at right angle. woke up next morning shocked that i'd slept through night without waking up in pain, just a little stiffness when i stood up which i soon walked off. have since had very little trouble and have stopped needing physio appointments. Coincidence? very very unlikely. bloody miracle more like. dont want you all rushing out buying expensive new beds but shows there is hope, as i did think i'd end up in wheelchair by end of it, physio mentioned postnatal surgery and metal plates etc.
p.s. i DONT work for a memory foam mattress producer!!!0 -
As a fellow SPD sufferer I completely second what conniemander says. We bought a 2 inch thick mattress memory foam topper (about £100) and it makes such a difference. Really don't think I'd be getting through this pregnancy without it.

I've not tried the memory foam mattresses, might have to look into that, thanks! I had SPD with my first (was in a wheelchair for a bit), and have got it again this time, although not as bad so far (although I've another 3 months to go yet...). I found a very hard mattress was the only way I could get even remotely comfy - anything slightly softer left me in agony.....weird eh?"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

It just feels as if my whole tummy area goes really tight, really strong ones make it hard to breathe fully but they are not painful at all0 -
I've got SPD and I sleep on my left side. I'm managing with a pillow under my waist in the curvy bit, and another pillow between my thighs to keep the pelvic bones in line. It took a couple of nights getting used to sleeping with the pillows but it works!
Hubby is sick of all the pillows in bed though :rolleyes:Here I go again on my own....0 -
I'm a bit worried about my missus at the moment (20 week scan is scheduled for Thursday). So far everything's gone pretty smoothly, not even had morning sickness. On Thursday morning last week we both felt a bit woozy and nauseous so both called in sick and spent the day in bed. By the end of the day I was feeling fine and went back to work on Friday. She still felt a bit iffy and stayed home.
Over the weekend she was up and about but complained of a sore throat and didn't actually get any sleep on Sunday night what with the throat, and the baby was wriggling a lot and kept disturbing her. She went to work today but went to bed as soon as she got home, without eating any dinner, and she's been retching and throwing up all evening, feeling hot but shivering.
I've opened the window so there's a breeze, put a cool flannel on her forehead, given her a hot water bottle to in case she gets cold, glass of water, bucket by the bed, and left out my MP3 player to read her a story. I've been trying to persuade her to at least eat some crackers or something but she's been refusing everything except the water. I'm sleeping in the spare room tonight so as not to disturb her. We think she might be over-tired, but she might also have a virus.
Will she (and the baby) be OK going without food until tomorrow or should I try again to get her to eat something? *Worries*0 -
I would get her checked out at the GP's just to be on the safe side. If you ring this morning and say she is pregnant, she should be seen by someone today. Here I go again on my own....0

I agree, get her to the GP ASAP. It sounds like a virus to me, both myself, hubby and dd had something similar. Vomiting, upset stomach, etc, Winter Vomiting Sickness apparently. Amazingly I recovered first and was only ill for 1-2 days (35 weeks preg at the time) whereas my hubby and daughter were ill for at least 4 -5 days.
She should be ok without food for one evening but make sure she drinks plenty of fluids. I didn't eat for 1-2 days but drank loads and was fine.
Good luck. Hope she feels better soon0 -
Agree, get the gp out to her if you can. Sounds like you are doing a great job looking after her though!0
