  • I'm already having a nightmare!!

I am only 6 weeks pregnant but got fairly bad pain last night. NHS Direct said take paracetamol and if they don't work pop down casualty for a quick check. They didn't help matters so went to hospital at 5pm thinking 'it's ok, they'll just say don't worry and send me home'

No, was in casualty til 9 having blood taken and being examined then got sent up to a ward to be examined by a different doc. She didn't say anything but to go back for a scan this morning! Got home at 11.30 last night!!

So now I'm all stressed out and my head is up my back side!!

Anyone got any tips for starting labour? I feel the size of a small country and my due date is not until next week. Can't sleep for longer than 3 hours at a time due to numb hips and am well fed up.....so all ideas welcome!

I've heard of a few - lots of sex, nipple stimulation (at least half an hour), warm bath with lavender to relax you, curry/spicey food, pineapple...etc.

The one that worked for me - without getting too graphic - was ingesting sperm!!! :o Apparently it has the same hormone in it that triggers labour!!!

Believe me I tried everything else on the list first and nothing worked....

As an aside....Currently signed off work (30 weeks pregnant) with pelvic symbiosis pain - finding it difficult to move around, but am managing things slowly....

Thinking about going back to work but unsure if it is a good idea - not sure how much use I will be at work, but getting worried about all the time I've had off...I work in a bank and am worried about the impression I will give customers as I won't be able to walk around easily and if the branch is busy I know they will be tutting and wondering why I'm not up helping!!!! Also will find it difficult to fulfill my role completely, although could manage some aspects of it!!!!

I am due to start holiday leave in March so if I go back it will only be for 3 - 4 weeks

anybody else had a situation like this?

Thaks - they saw the sac but too early for baby. Having a blood test at weekend and as long as hormone levels still rising will be scanned again at 8 weeks.

    Everythings a waiting game!

I believe your employer has an obligation to find you appropriate duties that do not risk your health.
I am a theatre nurse and my job involves lifting heavy sets of instruments, moving patients on and off the table, and standing for long periods, but the management has supported me and ensured that I have light duties and am not exposed to risks. I even sit at reception sometimes and do photocopying and answer the phone.
The surgeons are another matter entirely, and wander off to their coffee room whenever a heavy patient needs moving!
Talk to your line manager and let them know what you are comfortable doing, I think they would rather have you there doing something, rather that off sick, I was off sick for many weeks with nausea and its really boring and the time goes really slowly, so I was glad to be back even it I couldn't do my full role.
Of course if you really need to be off then stay off, as symphysis pubis pain is not nice, some ladies end up using crutches to get around, so make sure you don't aggravate the problem by doing too much.

Yup I'm another one with pelvic symbiosis pain, see the physio weekly and have been on crutches for about 2 weeks now. I'm also just shy of 30wks pregnant.

I've had time off work to rest but are currently back although like Moohound suggests I've made sure my employers are allocating me suitable duties. I suspect I'll have the odd day here and there off sick until my maternity leave starts at the end of Feb but to be honest I feel better being around people that stuck at home. Also with SPD they do recommend keeping moving (although take it slowly) so everything doesn't just seize up.

Hope you feel better soon as I know how painful it is and not being able to take anything other than the occassional paracetomol isn't exactly helpful. Roll on the epidural :D

    Best wishes

Thanks for your comments - got my physio appt through for next week so have agreed with manager I'll stay off until then and review it after they have assessed me.

They don't want me to go back and cause myself any further damage by doing something I shouldn't and as I work in a customer facing environment it wouldn't look good if I couldn't fully assist customers.

Doing gentle excercise at the moment - lots of short walks and swimming to try and ease things - agree that sitting still all day is not a good idea at all.

    Thanks again
