I ve had trouble from the Abbey .. after putting a cheque into the branch from a relative ( he mistakingly wrote it from his current acc and not his deposit one in barclays ) so the cheque was stopped ... i wasnt informed till i rang the Abbey to ask why my debit cards had been stopped. we were in tesco and tried to pay for our shopping as normal ,we had over 3,000 in our account and were told the card was no good. it was a busy friday and you can imagine the embarrassment in front of a line of customers. We had to put all the shopping back ....Abbey stopped the cards and said they were investigating fraud because of the bounced cheque. I would have expected to have been informed by phone ,they had our mobile numbers but heard nothing. they knew for 4 days but we didnt know anything till we went shoppping. we had to get cash from a relative who lived 100 miles away to see us over the following weeks till it was all sorted out. I complained to abbbey but they insisted they wernt to blame and it was procedure. I was furious ..a simple phone call would have saved a hell of a lot of trouble .. Paul.0

Why is life so complicated?
All these scary letters (which are too complex for me to understand). Thank you so much NID and all the other nice persons for helping Ann and Jinny, it is reassuring that people can make sense of this nonsense. I am quite clever but I don't understand any of it.
I vote we all go back to bartering. A lovely couple in their sixties just wanted a house in the country £350,000 for a shoebox surrounded by a field. Crumbs.
We should all go outside for a few minutes and breathe the fresh air (ok maybe with some volcanic debris) and stay calm and be happy.
I must go and mow that grass......

Personally I think those programmes should carry a "health warning" - they make you want the impossible!
And, as so many people on this board have pointed out, money can't buy happiness, health, friendship, .....

You are perfectly right. I still am not mowing grass. can you shout at me and make me go? I need someone to shout at me.

Won't shout - but just think how much better you will feel when it is done!
Rather than wake up tomorrow - and spend all day thinking that you need to do it!
On the other hand - if you DO leave it until tomorrow, it will be another day later before it needs cutting again!
See - there are always two sides to any arguments!"What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -

Thing is with the letters, the banks try and confuse people with terms and legislative text that baffles most - once you master this and understand each term, you see them slip up.
I just seen a letter earlier sent from Barclays quoting a request for a s.61/s.65 - really? That'd be quite amusing to see what would materialise, maybe they meant that to mean a s.78 request must be fulfilled prior to them issuing enforcement, in line with s.65(1)!
Its quite funny - so what I do is hit them back, with complex letters quoting correct terms back at them.... its funny if you read some of the things i've sent, read this for a laugh (and yes, it was later wiped off after they received the letter!)
Letter I sent here: 1006
Update to it here: #1224

I am beginning to see what you mean!
Love the reply - although it does sound very clever and complicated!"What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -
Oh my gosh. Hysterical. Banks seem to have so much power and it is good to see regular people winning for a change.
I have been thoroughly inspired by both of you. Off i pootle to garden! I promise. This site is so addictive, relaxing, comforting, educational and highly entertaining now!
