Slightly back tracking here, but mouseann what make and model is your phone? Like my own, some phones can reject certain numbers.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0

Thanks Basmic,
It's just a very basic M&S phone - about 7 years old - cordless with an answering machine.
It does have caller i.d. enabled and I now (since tonight!) know how to turn the volume down - but don't think it is sophisticated enough to reject specific numbers.
I think you can pay BT to do this but at the moment am "toughing it" out!
But please everyone keep up the support, advice and other comments -plu the "virtual hugs"! This is helping to keep me sane!"What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -
I know Virgin will change your number free, if you're getting harassment calls - I've done this once, some time ago, and had to contact the police to get a crime reference number. Five minutes later, I quoted that number to VM and had myself a new number for free.
But might be worth telling your old friends that you're changing number, and even dropping them an email with your new number!Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
Thanks Basmic,
Am leaving changing my number as the final option as I am currently coping OK with the nuisance calls - by not answering them!
Have just looked on the BT web-site and apparently they have a system by which certain numbers can be prevented for ringing. This is about £3.50 per month with a maximum of 10 numbers and I am not sure whether it works for 0845 numbers. I was wondering whether anyone had any experience of this - I suspect the companies are well aware of this and would just use alternative numbers!
At least by ignoring them I am aware of the quantity of calls ...."What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -

Thanks for all the advice,
This board is becoming my lifeline!
The sun has come out so have been doing a spot of gardening.
Am going out for a walk later - and I do have a stack of books (passed on to me by friens) to read. Feels a bit lazy after a busy job - but i guess that is what retirement is really about!"What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -
It is cold in Hampshire. I will try to do grass today seeing as you are gardening.
Well done.

Hi Ann:hello:
I have to confess to reading your whole thread yesterday and am hooked. Just wanted to say I areading with interest and am already very proud of how far you have come. I am so pleased you found this site as the help you have received so far is absolutely amazing and has opened my eyes to parts of the site I must admit to never having really ever read (such as what Niddy does etc)
I think it's amazing how far you have come already. Get yourself out into the garden and read some books and relax - that is what retirement is about
