Elsie I reckon I would do that too. Chickens, we are!! But still, knowing Nid is there to help might make lions of us all.

I hope when the time comes and it ever happens to me, that I have your bottle.

I think I would rather be out for the day, or pretend to be out.!! ( I know I am a wimp ), but I am scared that I may say something that I shouldn't re the debt.!!

    Actually Elsie,

I don't feel as if I have much bottle!

And I agree with both of you about admitting something I shouldn't! Especially as these people are trained to intimidate and get money from people!

    Let's just see what happens.

Of course, now I have sent the letter they may not turn up - at least, this time!

As you say, perhaps now you have sent the letter, they will think better of it. Lets hope so, I will be at work most of Friday, but I will be thinking of you Ann.

Bye for now, must make tea.

    Hi Ann

Ok, well don't worry they have no rights whatsoever and cannot force entry or anything, the fact you're older does not concern them, i've heard of Lowells forcing a woman in her 90's to pay a debt with a card at the doorstep - it was not her debt!

Trust me, stick to the law and tell them to get lost - they will stop calling once they get that letter otherwise you can have them arrested and they do not want that!

Point is, you are in control - NOT them - remember that at all times. :D

They will actually fail to show on friday anyway if the letter gets there beforehand.... so assume they get it wednesday then send the people on Friday you can call the cops and have them arrested being you've warned them NOT to come, but i'd let them off the first time - however if they do call try and record it - so say through the door "bear with me while I get my dictaphone to record this" and then they will go quiet on you and possibly walk anyways hehe

Don't you worry ok? I'll PM my number and if they do show up you can ring me if you want and i'll speak to them (as your son or whatever) or i'll speak you through what to say.... the offer is there but it will possibly not happen anyway! :D

    Better? :p

    Hi Niddy,

Have just had a little idea!

If they do turn up and if I am in, I do have a large glass panel in my front door so I can easily see any visitor before opening the door to them. Is there any mileage in me printing off another copy of the letter I have just posted off and pushing it through the letter-box for them to read? (Assuming that they can read!) This would then reinforce the legal position.

    Worth a try???

    Hi Ann,

I have just been mulling this over, and the more I think about it, the more angry it makes me.:mad:

Why should you be scared in your own home.....its just not on. Its the one place that you should feel safe.!! As Niddy says, you have control, so just tell them to b@gger off.

You could always attach the hosepipe and poke it through the letter box and give 'em a drenching.!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    You are so right, Elsie!

Love the idea about the hosepipe - but, knowing how clumsy I am, I would probably end up drenching the hall - and myself!

And, weirdly (or not!), it is the embarrassment factor which worries me! The fact that they might turn up and be overheard by neighbours or arrive when I have visitors .... pride, eh?

I know exactly what you mean.....I know that my neighbours would not expect that from us..:A..we are model neighbours, and couldn't possibly be in debt.!! None of our family know, only mse members are privvy to that information, so I certainly wouldn't want the neighbours to find out.!!

I always think that I don't have any money, but I have got pride....in buckets full, and that makes you stronger in a way....so if they turn up deal with them in your best Hyacynth Bucket voice, and then tell them to b@gger off.!!!

    Good advice, Elsie.

And you are so right about not wanting people to know!

I am sure my neighbours, friends and family think I am the model of propriety and somewhat boring! And I don't mind them continuing to think that!

Am now going to practice my Hyacinth Bucket voice!
