Mouseann - what a good job Nid is here to put a perspective on things. It must have been rotten for you to read the postcard but I am glad you're feeling calmer now. Easy to say, but please try not to worry. Hugs.

    Thanks Pollcolly,

You are so right - would have probably gone into orbit if it hadn't been for Nid!

    Thaks Niddy,

I do appreciate the offer but I am going to try to be "grown-up" and deal with it - not sure how, will play it by ear.

I think this is something I am going to have get used to - probably goes with the territory!

Just a small point, if they persist in turning up despite the fact that they have been sent the letter, can I respond and also tell them that I am elderly? Might be worth a try?

    Hi Ann

Ok, well don't worry they have no rights whatsoever and cannot force entry or anything, the fact you're older does not concern them, i've heard of Lowells forcing a woman in her 90's to pay a debt with a card at the doorstep - it was not her debt!

Trust me, stick to the law and tell them to get lost - they will stop calling once they get that letter otherwise you can have them arrested and they do not want that!

Point is, you are in control - NOT them - remember that at all times. :D

They will actually fail to show on friday anyway if the letter gets there beforehand.... so assume they get it wednesday then send the people on Friday you can call the cops and have them arrested being you've warned them NOT to come, but i'd let them off the first time - however if they do call try and record it - so say through the door "bear with me while I get my dictaphone to record this" and then they will go quiet on you and possibly walk anyways hehe

Don't you worry ok? I'll PM my number and if they do show up you can ring me if you want and i'll speak to them (as your son or whatever) or i'll speak you through what to say.... the offer is there but it will possibly not happen anyway! :D

    Better? :p

    Thanks Niddy,

I do indeed feel better - and so relieved and grateful that you are batting for me!

Think I will use the strategy, as suggested by you, of "talking to them" via the letterbox - in other words, not opening the door at all! That is, if they turn up at all!

Anyway, I may well be out when they call - although I suspect they may hang around until I get back!

At least this will be good experience for anything else which crops up!

    Hi Ann,

Hope you are feeling more confident about all this now. :) I think that someone coming to the door is the one thing we are all probably scared of more than anything. I am sure Niddy knows his stuff,:T and armed with that knowledge.....give 'em what for if they do turn up.!!:mad: Perhaps its just a bluff to scare you, and I am sure it must have sent you into a panic, but you are made of sterner stuff girl.!!:T

I think perhaps we are all going to have to grow a thicker skin before all this is done.:o:o

    Thanks Elsie,

    I do appreciate your support.

And you are so right - it is one thing to ignore the phone but someone actually knocking at the door is a bit more scary!

But, as you say, I am made of sterner stuff - and am going to use it as experience. And, of course, share it with everyone on the discussion board!

I hope when the time comes and it ever happens to me, that I have your bottle.

I think I would rather be out for the day, or pretend to be out.!! ( I know I am a wimp ), but I am scared that I may say something that I shouldn't re the debt.!!

Elsie I reckon I would do that too. Chickens, we are!! But still, knowing Nid is there to help might make lions of us all.

I hope so Polly......although I have a hubby, he's never here, always away at work or even out of the country, so he's not much help.!!!

    I better start being brave.:mad::mad::mad::eek::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad:
