debtdesperado wrote: »I'm trying to get on board with flylady, but finding it difficult to maintain the momentum... I have been decluttering for most of last year, a control journal and can usually stick to the cleaning for about a fortnight, and then suddenly I think, oh well, my house looks fine, it won't matter if I miss a day... and then suddenly it's back to [STRIKE]normal[/STRIKE] being completely messy...
Does anyone have any tips to sticking with it and not backsliding? How did you get past the idea of cleaning when it looks clean?!
Any tips gratefully received!
This is definitely the problem we have in this house. I think the hardest thing is to get your head around the idea that even though it's clean, its going to get messy. I've been having an ongoing battle with the dining table...it's always got junk on it. Once it's clean, I tend to forget about it...until there are piles of junk on it again!
I joined up with flylady long before I knew this thread existed and she had a particular approach (sorry if you already know this), and that was to spend time each day tackling a hotspot (I think it was five minutes). I suppose when you've done this every day it becomes a habit...My old house was much cleaner than this one as I jumped on things as and when I could see them becoming a problem. Of course I only had one littley then....and she was happy to 'help' mummy. She had her own feather duster....
What I'm trying to say is that once your house is clean then things are easier to see...once you see things building up tell yourself here's 15 minutes, lets see what I can do. As Flylady says, you can do anything in 15 minutes!
Keeping motivated is really hard, but perhaps you should still follow the lists? Even if you don't need to do half of them, it'll prompt you. And, of course, you should build in a reward for yourself once you've completed the tasks.
I'm not sure I really offered any brilliant advice, but that's kind of how I see it. Me, I'm still struggling through the chaos...
Take care

And another post from me...like buses you wait for ages for one then they all come at once!
Just a quick note to say thanks very much for your continued hugs and support...things are getting a little easier, but it's still hard to come to terms with. I told my mum and she couldn't believe how supportive an online group could be....being of a certain generation she has a particular idea about the Internet...didn't realise we sit and chat [STRIKE]all day[/STRIKE] for a couple of minutes.
I wanted to send some hugs to everyone who needs one - in particular to BenW.
Also, a big 'Happy Birthday' to anyone I've missed.
Right, I'm off...DS needs some more cuddles. He managed to get his head stuck in the bedstead this morning...thought we'd have to call out the fire brigade or something...but no, I managed to rescue him....
Take care all
Have a great day

and I am NO-ONES minion:A
You keep telling yourself that..((List update))
popping on to say hello again (are you all ignoring me ??? and didnt there used to be a confused smilie??)
I hope you arent all thinking I have just not bothered coming on over the last month or so. I suppose I havent, but its been for 2 reasons - firstly, laptop battery dead so every time I unplug it it dies, its not portable at all now, and I keep leaving it in random places where I am not IYSWIM.
Also I'm very pre-occupied with DS and the assessment/diagnosis, they suspect Aspergers and we are going back for further assessment next week. His tics have been getting much worse, they are now causing him physical aches and pains, and they are coming out as involuntary noises as well, which is not just distressing but bl00dy irritating as well (sorry I know thats not very sympathetic sounding, is it ?!!!).
His teacher is fairly supportive but un-trained thought doing her best, and I started going on a parenting course for "Additional Needs" last week. Still reeling from the possibility of Aspergers a bit though, and worry for his future.
Once things are more settled his tics will most likely get beter. maybe not 100% but they will improve. Mine makes stupid noises and squeaks and clicks.. when he is stressed it is like living with a dolphin!! Not helped by DS2 having tics too.. thankfully his also calm when he does but he shrieks like a stuck pig!
The pain may not be real either, it may just be another reaction to the stresses of life.. mine gets 'headache' and 'legache' when he cannot cope with a situation.. when they feel crappy they are removed from the situation it may just be he needs 'time out' occasionally.
I am glad you are making some progress though..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Rosie Well Done on the weight loss :T
Happy Birthday wishes to those I've missed, hope you all had lovely days xx
Welcome to all new people :hello: x
Been MIA, no particular reason just didn't post, been busy with life etc etc, I'm sporting the most awful cold this week which is hindering my doing things, I really don't do poorly so I'm a bit frustrated. New car is here and up and running, it's fab, it starts in the mornings :rotfl::T got my new curtain rail and curtains up at the LR window, (7 weeks without any) all by myself too, so yay  house is ticking over with dailies etc etc was hoping to do a weekly clean today but cold says NO! can't stand up without feeling sick lol So, just pottering today got some washing and DW etc, so will try and rest and take it easy in between.

morning all
went to bed at 10.30pm, and dh came at that time too which is unheard of! He's woken up grumpy...apparently I woke him up when I got up at 8 (was forced up as he was snoring!!). Anyway he seems to be getting a cold - annoyingly someone came into work with a really bad cold the other day and he's picked it up. Why don't people stay home when they're ill? DH has sinus problems so colds always affect him really badly.
Not much flying in need here as we did loads last week so I am going to concentrate on the declutter missionMum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -

Debtdesperado-I have been flying for two weeks now and the first week it took me hours. One day was to do the kitchen, declutter work surfaces, clean cupboard doors, wash floor etc and ten lo and behold last monday was kitchen again and I was:eek:they can't possibly all be doing ALL that again but it was only once I'd done it that I realised how much quicker it is when you keep on top of it.
Tuesdays and fridays are my days off so I tend do most of my flying then and yesterday I managed to do wed, thurs, fri in 3 hours and then I read that someone was doing it in HHC so it must get quicker each week!
I am so grateful to everyone on this thread for their tips and the way they support each other is lovely.
So good luck debtdesperado and keep going.
I have to work full time for the next 3 weeks so I just hope I can keep up.0 -
Oh dear.......not done as well this week, although I have tackled the main bedroom and this is looking good!
I don't think I'll get any stars this week, but my house is definitely improving.
If it's deleted, it's done (and probably done again and again - I find a lot of the jobs turn into dailies - that's good isn't it?)

Morning all
I've woken up full of cold - knew it was coming, though, as I've struggled with my voice for the last couple of days. I don't like not being able to shout at the little dears in schooland I'm disappointed that we won't be able to see the twins yet, but have explained it to their mum.
DH and I went shopping last night, and I put everything away straigt away. :T Also, I can't remember the house looking this good on a Friday night after a week at work ('good' is a relative term, as most rooms are still very messy) and my list is a lot shorter than usual. I'm planning on housework 9-12 today and a trip to costco with DS2 after that. They have the small Kenwood chopper on offer, which would really make life easier. I might get one for MIL as a present for next week, too.
Right, breakfast and a second cuppa first, and then to work.
Jill - it's nice to see you back on here. I hope you get the right kind of support for your DS.
Rose - you've made some big changes this week. Well done. It sounds like you are enjoying your walks.
I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Morning all
Slept well. Bedding already in the washing machine and I'm determined to fly today.
The first thing I'm going to do is try the hot water. Fingers crossed!
Am taking NN shopping today. She got given some Tesco vouchers at Christmas which she needs to use up. We'll go to the villagey part of town first so I can get to make use of her disabled badgeI am the leading lady in the movie of my life
