I quite often have trouble with the thank you button not recording my thanks (someimes an error message comes up), it means I do often duplicate entries if it's days apart and I can remember if I've entered :( have no idea how to solve it though!

I would like to have the option of not going through links - as the referral links seem to work now, its difficult to work out just where the comp is from, especially when clickys are used.
If you right mouse click on the link, and then click properties you will see what I mean. This is just one of them

    Here's one,

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/redir/5d857493?id=3196X602032&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.money savingexpert.com%2Fredir%2F5d857493%3Fid%3D3196X60 2032%2!!!!%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.habitat.co.uk% 252Ffcp%252Fcontent%252Femail-signup%252Fcontent

I was wondering where they were as I hadn't seen any. I can't see that at all on Firefox, even with refcontrol off. When I click the link it seems to go straight to Habitat. I tried it on IE though and then I see the re-direct when I click the link. Does this mean it's not working in Firefox or it just doesn't show it?

there is a posting from someone who sounds very technically minded bringing a number of issues up on the discussions thread about the skimlinks programme here.

I hadn't realised that the redirects would be invisible. I am so not happy as I prefer to control which sites I visit and not have someone else decide for me which links my pc should use. Seems to me to be unclear and not very transparent as I would have not idea which links would be the skimlinks on any given comp link posted.
If at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.

  • Just a warning to anyone using RefControl

I've started using it again (it's quicker than dragging the links, I just middle click on the link instead to open in a tab next to the tab with the MSE post) and noticed that when it's turned on to 'Block' when I click thanks on here it doesn't register, because I think it requires a referrer to do that.

I've gotten around the problem by having it on the status bar (it's quite handy too because you can set it to show the referrer aswell so you can see it at a glance) and I'll turn it on (right click and tick 'Enable') when I open all the comp links (I bookmark them by ending date and do them in blocks of 30 at a time) and then turning it off again when they're all open and so on.

Hope that helps, I'd hate for people to be using it and not realising the thanks isn't registering and then in turn duplicating their entries!

I think that it's a great idea but if it where to be implemented maybe it should only be made available to senior MSE'rs ie those who have 4 stars/medals + as it could be open to abuse ;)

Then Al Mac wouldn't be classed as a senior member because of the disappearing posts!!! ;):D

In all seriousness, if this were possible there would need to be some restriction on it as it could cause mayhem, but I'm not sure how any restriction could be fairly imposed, I only have 3 stars/medals and would never abuse the system, and I'm sure that the majority of people with 3 stars/medals or less would also never do this either. :)

I'm confused as to how it would cause mayhem ....?
