a lot of comp organisers are anti MSE and will drop competition entries from people who enter from MSE when they disclose the referral link

This is of course entirely illegal. Competitions have to be run fairly. If anyone knows of any promoters who actively practise in this activity please name and shame them.

I really hope it's not as prevalent as some people say, I've never hidden my referral so I hope that has never disadvantaged me.

Promoters shouldn't be anti-mse in the first place. Most competitions are there to create brand awareness. If it wasn't for sites like MSE driving traffic to their sites they would be out of business. By posting competitions here we are basically giving them free advertising.

I know 'allgigs' have been funny about compers before... sure i remember them having a competition on twitter or facebook which was not open to compers - not sure how they were going to have any entries if people who enter competitions are not allowed to enter the competition :rotfl:

Sad to say that quite a few sites have openly said that they don't like entrants from MSE admittedly most of them have been small sites and blogs,

if there are a few who openly say they do not like MSE how many must there be who secretly don't like MSE and secretly ditch entries

I guess we will never no hence my sledgehammer to crack a walnut approach of not sending any referral links to any competition

Not sure if this is the page to post but.... hi!! New comper here! I started yesterday, have now done the whole 200+ pages ...though stayed up till 2.30am to do it...eek is this a compers life?! Anyway I really enjoy, as you say, the prize is the bonus...plus it means I have transferred my ebay fix to a comping fix which means pennies saved! Good luck everyone!

Hmm reading the above posts I must admit, I did my first 50+ just clicking but after that I installed a firefox addon that told the website I was coming from google or coming directly. You can get it on the 'addons' section by typing referrer.

oh I have patience, but I love getting a 'red card' so to speak, which is why this is ideal for me. OH is surprised about how many comps are out there and what they offer, so I hope to show him :)

Have just spotted this competition on facebook. I won't post it as it finishes in under an hour and it is extremely unlikely that anyone entering now will win.

    facebook

It is for V Festival tickets (which I am absolutely desperate to win as you can probably tell by my signature :D).

The competition involves updating your status to involve a certain phrase and then repeating that status. The person who mentions them the most times wins the tickets. Some people who have entered must have repeated the same status over 1000 times. I understand that the company wants publicity but surely getting people to spam their friends to that extent is only going to backfire on them. If one of my friends posted the same thing over a 1000 times they would be blocked from my newsfeed and I would definitely resent that company.

Fair play to those that are entering, they obviously do really want the tickets and are putting in the effort, but I think it's stupid for companies to run promotions in this way. It's not very fair, it's just whoever sees the competition first and then annoys their friends the most. It is not like a game which involves effort where the high scorer wins. I'm sure the entrants will end up having their accounts suspended by facebook for spamming too.
