It's those who know what you post & try to get in there before it's posted, I completely agree if people have searched and posted on their own back
xx
An example of this is the comps from The List. I read The List online quite a lot, and will normally have a wee look to see if the comps from there have been posted. If not, I will quickly post them. I have no idea if there is someone who posts them regularly or not, or if I have offended someone by doing this - I think that I posted them last weekend. A sticky would help me to stop worrying about stepping on someones toes.
I appreciate all the work that the people who post the regular comps do, and think that a sticky showing this would be helpful, especially if a newbie posts a regular (Like the ITV comps) as often you can see them getting "told off" and this can stop the comps board feeling as welcoming as it could be. Instead of just saying to them "STOP!!! Compingcat does this one" they could be referred to a sticky and asked to check that next time.
Just my tuppence worth, I will relurk now

Why can't people post if they see a comp that hasn't been put up? No-one owns a comp, Yes people spend ages searching etc, but they are choosing to do this.
The comp board keeps going regardless of who posts what comp. Everyone acquired what they post from someone else,
People that want to post should be encouraged, I can understand if people are taking the pee by going through your profile and following that, that is wrong.
I can't see how a list on this would work, and how it would be enforced without mayhem on the boards.
You can't tell people they are not allowed to post because you want to post that site.
I mentioned this on the boards when Kipper was a Bg, someone was openly posting all the comps she used to check, I was told very quickly by many thats "no-one owns a comp" you couldn't start messaging people to tell them as abuse would be involved.
There is a certain degree of etiquette around this yes,
Theres been sites i had reg posted someone decided they were doing them, my attiutude is if they are that eager to post leave them to it.
If i came the following week to check that site and it wasn't posted i'd post it.
Before you do any lists you are best to check with divadee xx#JusticeForGrenfell0 -

I never said I wanted a list
I just wanted to vent. I just think there's basic etiquette that's all. Leave it as a free for all but i'm going to have to stop posting as there's no way I have time to waste checking comps if other people are going to post some of them, but not all at them, and pick and choose which ones they want. If you'd all read my post properly it also was not aimed at newbies or even people that did it occasionaly. I'm not coming back to read discussions again as i'm just going to get angry.

This is an open forum for competition lovers. Comping is a hobby, no matter how seriously you take it.
To say that, if you come across something that hasn't been listed, you have to PM someone to see if it's their comp or not is unbelievable.
No one person should 'own' a website's competitions.
Admittedly people work very hard and I think we all appreciate this...I take hundreds of comps from here and so, if I can find a few to list in return, I am more than pleased to have done this.
I am very disappointed that some feel the need to be the ones to post certain competitions. (I may not have a large 'post' count on here now, but have been on here for years under a different name, that change is another story!!).
I DO give a damn for feelings of others, and I am grateful for anyone who posts...but that means ANYONE.
However, does it mean now, that if I find a new comp or have one emailed, there's no need to search because even if it isn't listed, someone more important than me may be about to list but haven't done it yet? Does it mean I have to only take from this site and not give as I may be treading on someone's toes..or feelings.:(Did really well last year..nothing yet for 2011!! I live in hope!!! Thanks to all postersxx:wave:0 -
Did anyone happen to make a note of the 8 digit number for the ITV competition to win tickets, tv, car and £5000. It was announced yesterday during England v Japan but I missed it. The winner will be called on Monday.
Need to know whether I can leave the house:D:D
I didn't see it either, and I've got my codes waiting to go.It is a scientific fact that your body will not absorb calories if you take it from another person's plate.:A :A :AChocolate is the answer and I don't give a damn whatthe question is.;)0 -

Ok i've had a few PM's (not from the above poster to clarify). I don't think that anyone 'owns' a certain site, i just don't see why ITV gets to be treated differently to any other site??!
I'm also happy for people to post if they spot a comp - what i'm referring to really is people, who has sweetiepie said, just pick the best comps to post and are actively trying to 'beat' the regular poster
I'm obviously not explaining myself very well2008: £783.12 - 2009: £6,401.15 - 2010: £4,230.61 - 2011: £8720 - 2012: £2,041.89

I don't think anyone owns a comp & don't have a problem whatsoever if I have missed a comp or people have genuinely searched and found one, however, i don't think it's fair that people wait until the very minute a comp is poted that I normally do, and then post one, not all of them, but just one - normally the best comp that will get lots of thanks, which is confusing and seriously frustrating.
I understand it's an open board, and I have posted regular comps if they have been missed out etc. I love these boards and everyone who posts and don't want any friction.
I'm also in agreement with BMN over why it is any different for ITV comps? If we say anything then we get jumped on, but when anyone posts an ITV then they get jumped on :confused smiley:
People are free to post what they want, but I think it's really unfair if people post a regular competition by watching and waiting for it then taking the best & leaving the rest. It's sneaky IMO xxxx JoJo xx

i know iam a new girl on here but i have been reading all the above posts and think a list of who posts what would be so helpfull. There seems to be alot of unspoken rules on here that new people including myself do not know so if people really wanted to post certain comps they could be on a list saying they do that. Kind of like the magazine comps. iam so certain people don't post comps to upset regulars just probs don't understand and when people say something to them it can be perceived in the wrong manner and stop them ever posting again. one of my first posts on here was asking for advice on what to do about not receving prizes that i had not won through here and what i won waaayyy before i was a member here. the way some people responded did put me off posting although luckily some nice people, Tulip especially springs to mind, but there were others did help me in a nice friendly way now i feel okay posting on here. Maybe a "rule" guide would help. I am gratefull to all who post comps but i understand regulars want to do theirs so if it was wrote down in black and white that they did it may stop all the problems. iam till searching for a comp to post on here lol xxxxxxx:j First prizes back into comping after a break - romantic break to 2 to Venice/ Paris or Rome with romantic trip and a 42 inch TV and blu Ray amazing !
Thank you all so much and good luck guys and girls xxxxxx0 -
OK, am going to make myself even more unpopular here but hey ho...
I've obviously posted quite a lot since I joined so am going to have my say, cos this has been niggling me for quite some time.
When I started off, I didn't have a clue who posted what, didn't realise that people had regular sites that they posted from. So I posted with the best of intentions, thinking I was making a great contribution (I'd personally feel funny about entering & not posting but I've got the time and it's my personal choice to do so) I had no idea that it would upset/annoy anyone but it did.
I would sometimes post from Kip's regulars cos I knew she didn't do weekends & I thought I was helping her. I started to see snide remarks (never from kip) about etiquette but chose to rise above them - I've taught teenagers for years, you develop a thick skin!
Back then, there were very few posters and very few comps compared to now. I went on to be the only poster for loads of sites & I loved it because it made me part of the team. Not being able to work has made me feel very isolated, this place is a haven, somewhere I could actually do something useful whilst being stuck in the house.
Then there was a sudden surge of new folks, a couple of which started to post my usuals. I was glad in a way, the list was a bit long for me to manage. What did start to annoy me, this has already been mentioned, was those few who cherry-picked the comps that were going to generate the most thanks. I know lots of people will agree with this: A lot of people post just to get thanks or get post count up. If there was some way to stop this daft system of getting medals & thanks, many people would not post. Simple as that.
When you're a regular poster, you follow your 'own' sites several times a week/day & you know exactly what's going on. I only have to be offline for a couple of hours & 4/5 people will post 'my' comps if they see them before me. I'm not talking about newbies but about a couple of people who are like bloody magpies ready to pounce. I've even had people posting from the same site at the same time as me. What's all that about?
You have to be a regular for a few months to notice exactly what happens. It's fantastic that we've got loads more posters cos that means loads more comps. People have introduced loads of websites I never even knew existed. I've found a few new sites myself (Daisy Green, 69 degrees for example.) I can guarantee that if a new comp appears that won't get many thanks, nobody will touch it. Along comes a decent prize & it's posted within hours.
I came online today having not been on for a few days. I started to search cos I had some to post and there wasn't one comp left for me to post. Thing is, I feel a bit hurt. I don't really know why. When I saw BMN's post I actually shed a few tears as I felt the same. (yep, I'm hormonal) I'm not bothered by new posters & am more than happy to 'share' sites, as long as it's done nicely.
We're talking about very few people here, bet we all know who they are. To those people I say you're being quite nasty, pushing to the front of the queue. You know very well that others have done a good job of posting but don't give a damn. Trouble is, there was an unpleasant incident a while back which made us all look guilty. I've no idea who caused all the bother but they didn't have the guts to own up. How vile to make other people look like bullies. It's now created a situation whereby those of us who have been posting for longer than a year are tarnished with the same brush of being horrible & unwelcoming. We're not, we like you to join in, in whichever way you see fit. Any forum has an element of nastiness, sadly. That's the trouble with the written word, it's so harsh. It's the same with texts, you can't tell the tone of voice they're written in, so they're easy to take the wrong way.
I think everyone has held back from talking about this as people clearly have different views. I honestly think that most people on here are fab, a couple are being hypocritical as well. Don't jump on the bandwagon if you've done exactly the same thing yourself. Again, we all know who you are.
I'm typing this thinking I'll probably regret it, cos people get shot down for saying their piece. I'm not bothered, I can always join up with another ID like many other people have.
No doubt someone will go to the bother of quoting me, bring it on. Yes, this is an open forum. Yes, we all have different views. No, we're never going to all get along together, we're humans; it doesn't work that way.
I'm just asking the very few people who are causing bother & not engaging in any discussion to think a little bit about why you're posting. Is it because you're wanting to contribute in a positive way, or is it because you think those numbers & medals on the left are actually meaningful? Most of the thanks are cos someone has read/entered a comp you've posted: THAT'S ALL. Doesn't make you the most popular kid in the class. The medals merely show how much you've posted: THAT'S ALL. Doesn't necessarily mean you've posted anything helpful.
I know I rant on & there'll be an element of 'here she goes again'...
Don't read it then, ignore me. I probably wouldn't read it either.
I've only ever had proper heated debates with a couple of folks on here & we're friends now. All too soon, this'll be tomorrow's chip paper & there'll be sommat else bugging us all.
C'est la vie, lol.
That's how it works innit, say what the hell you like as long as you end it with lol orxxx
Probably playing on fb0
