  • Well, all I can say is that each and every time a hotel refunds a guest, someone employed by the hotel gets the third degree.
Yes, mistakes do happen and sometimes housekeeping forget to put the odd sachet of coffee or sugar in a room, and YES, there will always be maintenance issues.
And, as I said in my previous post, PTI has a wonderful approach to guest complaints. I just hope, that by people blagging the system and using loopholes, they wont feel the need to stop having this service.
When someone has a genuine complaint I would be the first person to offer a refund... trust me I do it all the time, thats part of my job.

Little Chef have the same policy on their food. If you have ANY complaint, about ANYTHING, the meal is free and if you are eating with others, their meal is free as well. I found this out, by chance, when I had to complain the milk was off.

I would never use this to my advantage, but have witnessed other people doing it. I was actually at one recently doing a survery and there was a party of 6 eating lunch, they had starters, wine, drinks and pudding, they chatted about every day matters, but right at the end, one of them complained about the starter. They were given the entire meal for nothing. In the car park they were laughing about it while claiming another victory.

I wonder how many free meals they have managed to "steal"

biggar, martin lewis appeared on television advising a couple to ring up sky and tell them they couldnt afford the monthly payment and they would reduce the cost, sky then halved the monthly fee for a period of time, a well known scam to a lot of people...he went further and made a big thing of phoning sky on the show

thats a sneaky trick, and his style of presenting the show with a smug grin says it all, save money...take it back from companies...you know consumers revenge

the whole credit card tart thing is ripping off banks because of loopholes, just like take advantage of banks open new accounts offers and then cancel them when you get the cash/goodies

this site is training ground for blaggers/hagglers/get something for nothing brigade

you never know this blaggers tip for premier inns could end being sent to you by email from the site.

im not the sort to blag a free room by hunting for small faults...but for a big fault like water/heating i could well be indebted to gumpo and others who have posted premier inns stand by their promise

    ynot---thanks for your post.
I saw Martin Lewis and I agreed---as usual---with everything he said but he was so right. He wasn't telling everyone to scam sky. He was showing how to SAVE! Did he advise them to phone sky and say that it ddn't work and they wanted their money back? No!
I don't need the OP to tell me to complain if something is wrong with my hotel room. I can do that myself. What I object to is the encouraging of dishonesty and I'm afraid that I'm not going to spend valuable time looking for something to complain about, even if I was like that.
Perhaps the point is that I'm an OAP from another generation where such dishonesty was in general frowned upon.

no biggar he told the person on the show to ring up sky and cancel the contract, as this would lead to sky halving the monthly premium to keep their custom....sky did this, the family on the show were delighted with the scam as they did not want to lose sky tv in the money saving plan martin was doing for them

that is the same scam/blagging tip that this site gives on mobile phone contracts...lie to the companies threaten to leave even if you have no intention of doing so just to obtain a better deal

its all along the same theme....get free money from new bank accounts...its dishonesty which is justified as moneysaving tips, because you deserve to get one over on big companies....and martin lewis sends out the message dishonesty will save you money and it does!

this site activley encourages people to scam big companies becuse they have been getting away with it for years...its encouraging dishonesty to save money

    you know its true

No I don't know it's true! To look for insufficient teabags etc and expect to get ALL your money back smacks of gross dishonesty to me. Just look at the title of this thread! It sickens me. But what do I know? I'm a 70 year old man probably living in the past.
Anyway, I've made my position clear and I can't persuade dishonest people to mend there ways so I shall leave it at that.

YNOT...aside from any of the arguments on here is it not true to say that being dishonest is not a good character trait?

So many people/companies are 'switched on' to people using this tactic. Happens a lot in my job. 'Hello, I'm looking for a family all-inclusive for 2ad+2ch, 1 week, Gatwick, Mid August'............Ok.....have you had a quote? 'Yes-£600 for all of us' (!!) 'Well-I suggest you book it as it must be a mistake' 'Well-what can you do?' Nothing-as I said I can't reach that price, it's impossible for August & why are you asking as you have a better price' 'Ok....I just wanted to see if I could get your price down' 'well what budget do you have'...'just cheap as possible' BANG-hang up....move to next customer who's not fibbing/wasting your time & has a realistic budget'

i agree its not a good character trait....i can understand your fustration at punters who will lie/spend hours trying to get pennies knocked off holidays...although that is martin lewsis advice on the matter!

i do belive travel agents are getting what they deserve because of their history of things like silly prices for holiday insurance, free child places etc like you have highlighted....you cant expect joe public to belive a travel agents word to be the truth and nothing but the truth...and lets face it yourself who i belive is an independant travel agent earns money because joe public will go to you to becuse you they distrust main travel agents prices or advice

you only have to walk into a foreign exchange office in thomson or thomas cook and watch them fleece the public with low exchange rates even though the punter before in the queue has been given the best rate on the day..its sickening sometimes

telling punters you are honest and are giving them the best deal must be hard work for you....and i have sympathy for you....but joe public is right to be wary of the travel industry as well

    YNOT-we agree (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Problem is that so many people spend so long ringing round that by the time they call you back IT'S GONE! Martins advice is spot on re: a set, package price (ie a Thomson/Airtours deal)-ring round-get best price...only takes a minute & weastes no-ones time. It's when you spend 45 minutes 'packaging' a deal together & customers use your time & then try & get price down! Luckily for me many of the accom prices are direct from Hotels & can't be accessed at our rate by jo public. Check out http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=231548 .....! People do make up the biggest fibs...onree lady told me 'I've phoned the mitsis hotels (5* all-inclusives) in Rhodes & they're nearly giving them away (mid August-I think not!) but I can't get the flights cheap'such a lie that you know is not true (!) I just laughed & said 'well book your room for peanuts & hold on for a cheap flight'..

Agree re: free places (see my signiture!) & under-occupancy-a con! Loads of fab info on here but some advice is 'grey' morally in my opinion but people will always have different views!

    Travelman,

No - I wouldnt 'create a fault'. That would be dishonest. I would however feel happy making a claim where there is something small wrong with the room. This after all is allowed by the T&C of the offer.

I understand where you are coming from - and you have the right to an opinion. Rather than calling people anal for disagreeing with you, lets have a more sensible debate.

In terms of taking 'unfair' advantage , or going against the spirit of a promotion, how is it different than either of the following? (all posted by ML on front page):

12 Free bottles of wine Smile loophole.
("its possible to grab it without giving it anything in return")

    Free Credit Infomation
("free credit report by exploiting a loophole; simply sign up ...get your report, then cancel the service")

Come to think of it, how do you feel about the freebee's thread? Some of the posts are for small companys, and for something usually fairly useless?? Is this anal too?
