Completely agree with your last line! Again...the original thread title 'how to stay in premier lodge hotels for free' says it all really....title SHOULD have been 'excellent moneyback offer from premier if rooms are not up to standard' methinks 2nd titel would not have appealed on this board so much!
  • I have to agree with Travelman/colmil et al.

Customers should be entitled to a refund if their stay was not up to expectations, but by that I mean no hot water/building works etc. Demanding your money back because the DO NOT DISTURB sign was found hanging in the wardrobe rather than on the back of your bedroom door is taking the mickey! PTI seem to be making a genuine offer of good customer service and should be applauded, but sadly there'll always be people looking to exploit that goodwill which merely demonstrates an attitude of arrogance and selfishness.

I think MSE is a fantastic site which rightly gives the consumer some power in the marketplace. IMO, freebees are a good way for companies to get you to try products you might not have otherwise considered. My local supermarket always have a stand giving away something and it's not uncommon for me to actually then buy what they're promoting.

The same can be said for Smile's wine offer; banking is a tough sector where customers are typically very loyal, if only for convenience. Smile know that getting you signed up probably gives them a customer for life, so the wine is just an incentive.

Where I do not agree with this site is exploiting loopholes, such as the Experian offer mentioned above. Of course, there'll always be a percentage of people who forget to cancel therefore it's still in Experian's interest to offer the get-out-clause, but it does smack of getting something for nothing. My other big bug bear here is free upgrades on flights. If you're not willing to pay for something I don't think this site should encourage you to blagg it for free. Of course, airlines used to reward special cases (eg honeymoon couples) but not dis-similar to the original post, such offers are a thing of the past due to a selfish few always trying to push their luck.

IMO, this site needs to make a clear definition between moneysaving and ethics.
  • Sorry TM - not quite sure why the thread's out of synch

Good points WI... but not sure about that last bit. Wouldn't that infringe on free speech? Who decides whats 'ethical' and whats not (clearly there's lots of different opinons on this one post)?

i dont think martin lewis wants a distinction between ethics and moneysaving, the whole point of the site is really consumers revenge, get your own back on banks and big companies who have been getting away with murder for years...thats what draws people into the site in their thousands every day

its a bit much for then people to post "shock horror" posts when other posters may use a scam to save money

i like the site with its style of genuine money saving tips, grey area tips , and downright sneaky ones
