Morality for Agents quoting prices & moneysavig-opinions please??

Hi all!
Read with interest Martins 'haggle you holiday down' thread/article. Lots of opinions already given on this....HOWEVER the market has now changed-many Agents have to spend time packaging up (or 'diy' as it's known here), so an initial enquiry by phone/web will take 25-45 minutes to do the quote properly & cover all options to get best price. Lets call this option 'A'
Option 'B'' is if you get a call from a customer saying 'I've been quoted x£'s for this Hotel with say Airtours-can you beat it?? This takes 1 minute to check.
Bearing in mind many Agents are commision only now do you think it's acceptable to use option A to get a price & THEN just ring round to get a better deal on said quote? Or to save money & not take up so much time just use option B?
Vote now!! This thread will be of great interest to all I think!
As an aside....I now DON'T give Hotel names or exact flight times when quoting-if the customer wants to see a web review I'll copy/paste it & remove the name of the hotel. Since I've started doing this bookings have shot up. Obviously I like to work on a fair margin but recently I had 3 days of no bookings (unheard of in peak season!) & on doing a few ringbacks found that customers had just taken quotes & rung round. Bit miffed as many of them asked for advice (I've lived in the Med) & so took a lot of my time.
I really don't want this thread to become as rabid as the last 'haggle' thread but would be really interested to see peoples opinions on 'A or B'.
Chris

Hi,
I would go for option B. I am a business travel agent and I would prefer people not to waste my time. In many cases I can save them money, plus they get our help when things go wrong.
I will never book my own holidays via anyone else than our holiday dept, so that I am sure it will be done correctly. It costs me more sometimes, but its worth it for piece of mind.
Best regards
Barry

I'm happy to go for B as well. (and have posted one on the "Want a Quote" thread, hint
)
Quite happy to have a think and a search for what I want and then see if it can be beaten, rather than waste some people's time with A.0 -
Hi Chris,How you doing.?
Same prob its been quite, enquiries yes, bookings NO.
A lot have been email enqs with WRONG Tel numbers.!!!
I am divided B to save time, but A to make more money.
I have the same thoughts as you,I am moving more to the Balearics,I have already visited 38 of our hotels in Mallorca(5 days),with more to come in September.
Do not use review sites now for these hotels ,because I know they are good.
Plus I have found them to be bitty.
Give the customer resort, hotel, star rating, board, depart airport, transfer, price."DO YOU WANT TO BOOK NOW"???.NO,MAYBE LATER"OK,THANKYOU FOR YOU ENQUIRY".
No messing, they already have my best price, dont believe in haggling.!!
I will send them details and give them personal service.
If anyone should read this,I WILL give you my best price,if you can find it cheaper well done,BOOK IT.
Goood thread Chris, maybe we should have an agents only thread.
After all WE DO TRY TO SAVE PEOPLE MONEY !!
Happy Hols and Selling.
Paul.
