typos1, klarapie and other nuisance call makers
You have no right to intrude in our private lives by ringing us up at home unless invited to do so.
Can I suggest you get a better job yes they are hard to come by but at least you do something constructive rather than be a pain in the backside for the vast majority of the population0 -
I usually get the kids to speak to them in Welsh or I sing to them. The soon put the phone down. Yesterday an "international" call appeared on the phone & DH answered it & just hung up immediately. They they call came though again & DH did the same. Again the called & he he made an aeroplane sound down the phone (like he does with DS who is 2yrs old!) & we never got called back......till 6pm.....and I answered...and it was my dad calling from Spain...and he was the one who called in the morning. DH felt like a proper idiot!!!0

This thread has been an interesting read, especially for someone that currently works in a call centre doing alot of cold calling.
Like a previous poster mentioned, it shouldn't take too much effort to calmly request to be taken off the database or calling list of whoever is calling you. Doing so is much more likely to be effective than being rude etc.
You also have to realise that for call centre operators who - as was mentioned above - rarely like their job and are doing it due to a lack of options, all they will do is reschedule another call back for you (which just takes a click of a mouse) rather than put in the effort to get your name off the list which takes a couple more clicks and thus a bit more time. Why should the individual waste more time to please someone who is just being an idiot to them over the phone?
Yes, they are unsolicited calls; yes, they are a nuisance; but it is one of the only jobs that is readily available and is a job which has sustained me for the last two months and there is nothing as frustrating when on my side of the phone as an individual playing games when you need to hit your targets or you'll be sacked and your family will be out of food.0 -
I think the best one I've overheard was my flatmate (who owns the flat).
He had a conservatory company phone up to try and give him a quote. Right at the start he told them its a flat, on the 1st floor! But either they weren't listening properly or too intent on just trying to get a sell. So they carried on with their spiel and he said he'd love a quote for one if they though they could actually build him one. He then proceed to chip into the sale pitch with questions like 'how do you attach it to the side of the flat?', 'what supports the floor?', 'is that made of glass too?' etc.
Kept them on kept them going on the phone for a good few minutes before they eventually worked out he was just taking the p*ss and there was no way they would be able to suspend him a conservatory 1 floor up on the side of the block like he had been suggesting to them!
They saw the funny side too once they realised, classic!Chris0 -
I am a shift worker-How would these callers like to be woken several times a week in the middle of the night.
It is no different for me as I am often asleep during the day when they call me.
So please tell me why I should be polite?
I now tell whoever I give my number too they must speak on the answerphone or I will not answer.
And NO these people do not take you off databases if asked.
I once told a cold caller the person they were after was dead and they were upsetting the family by keep ringing asking for said person.I did not swear just said it very angrily -put the phone down-one minute later the phone rang I answered and was told I had upset the cold caller -I just slammed the phone down.Remember only people who say money doesn't matter have already got enough :think:0 -
It doesn't always work, asked politely doesn't always get you any where
Why should we anyway since when it it a right of a company to pester you whether your customer or ex customer, I didnt seem to recall given my permission
Since when is it a opt out
I always make sure I tick boxes not to have marketing calls when askedLike a previous poster mentioned, it shouldn't take too much effort to calmly request to be taken off the database or calling list of whoever is calling you. Doing so is much more likely to be effective than being rude etc.0 -
Sometimes a sales call can be good news so its always worth asking what they want before you dismiss them-I used to work for a gas & electric company about 8 years ago (when BG/local electric co had over 60% of the market but were the most expensive by a large margin) and I was persistant, not just cos I only got paid if I signed someone up, but cos I felt I was doing good by reducing peoples bills. When I made people listen and look at our prices compared to what they were paying, they almost always signed up, I got paid, they saved money was a rewarding job. I was doing exactly what this site encourages, lots of people would have paid far more money for their fuel than they needed to if I hadnt been persistant and they almost always apologised for their attitude at the begining.
Typos , can I have your telephone number please? Its just that I often sell things on ebay, so thought I could give you a ring and see if you wanted to buy them first.
Dont worry if you politely refuse at first, I will be persistant as I would hate you to miss a good deal. In fact, why not post your phone number on this thread so that we all can ring you when we have stuff to sell?On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.0 -
Me too Typos and all other call room employees perhaps you like to be pestered at home while bathing kids, watching Corrie etc. I got nowt better to do than sit on my bum waiting for cold callers
I bet you wouldn't like to be called0 -
I hate cold callers interesting how those that do defend there actions are the usually ones who actually do this for a living. I dont know anyone who likes them at home0
