You have no right to intrude in our private lives by ringing us up at home unless invited to do so.
Can I suggest you get a better job yes they are hard to come by but at least you do something constructive rather than be a pain in the backside for the vast majority of the population
Really, Get a life. Telling people to find a better job? What if its the only job available to them? Didnt think about that did you? Nah didnt think so.0 -
And why dont you get a life too
So what if it is only job they can get what gives them the right to cause nuisance, I didnt ask for people to ring me, didn't think of that did you?
sporedude I ignore you from now onReally, Get a life. Telling people to find a better job? What if its the only job available to them? Didnt think about that did you? Nah didnt think so.0 -
Why dont you blame the companies that put you on the call list, Instead of the people doing the calling.0

Seems astonishing - I've just realised that I haven't had a single cold call since this thread began!!!!!!!0

Not really much point in doing this to be honest, as the moment you put down the phone - the dialler software will detect that the line has been cleared, and will present another call to the call centre operator.
Generally, from my experience, even though the dialler software detects that the line is cleared, the call still has to be logged into the system by the operator before another call is presented to him/her.
Like I mentioned earlier there are no guarantees but requesting to be taken off the calling list is most likely to work.
It doesn't always work the first time, but eventually out of all the operators that call you from a single company one of them will do it.
Try to proceed with something like 'Hello, before you continue let me just cut you off. I have received at least __ calls from you in the last week, I let all the previous callers know I am not interested; continuing to call me will not make me interested so please take my number off your database or calling list or I will have action taken against you.'
You should also always wait for a reply and confirmation that they will do so. Most likely they will try to 'objection handle' in their responses a couple of times but if you remain firm, polite and adamant that you are not interested, they will remove you from the list.
If however you hang-up after your request, without waiting for response, more than likely they will reschedule a call for you (for most software all they need to do for this is double tap space bar and press enter:()0 -

I think it is more important to try and figure out how they are getting your numbers and the companies involved rather than blaming the operators. Its like blaming a tube operator for the high price of travelcards and tube delays.0 -
I used to get callers from over seas, on the phone handset it comes up with 'International' rather than a number, I start by saying 'Hawoaw (hello) when they speak I turn round and say 'me speak no engwish' they will then ask 'what language do you speak' I just make some gibberish up and say 'is zat wit rice' they will then try and talk what they think your language is, I then reply with some gibberish and hang up. A work colleague told me what he did, when they won't hang up he just handed his phone to his 2 year old daughter and told her to speak to father christmas's wife and the child is on the phone for ages and kept going on about how she had been good girl and what she wanted for christmas.
I got a call the other day and I just told them I was a tenant and I was bankrupt, they soon put the phone down:rotfl::T0 -
My land line seems to be bizarrely intuative.
The only callers who can get through on it are my partner and my kid's father. Everyone else just gets a fax machine type noise (even my own mobile!)
No idea why! I happily give my land line number out wherever a contact number is required. :rotfl:
Haven't had a cold call at home for a couple of years. Thanks, dodgy broken Virgin telephone connection!!!0 -
I got yet another nuisance call from Talk talk who I am not a customer of there's so they have obtained my details illegally. I made a complaint to them 2 weeks ago and told them after about 6th nuisance call to leave me alone.
They have done neither. TPS are now investigating my complaint0 -
I hate marketing calls, but rarely get any thanks to TPS. I'm never rude to the person calling, as they are just given a list of numbers to call.
I just say "not interested - sorry" and hang up. Simple.
If I'm busy, I simply don't answer the phone. They can leave a message, or if urgent, call my mobile.
All these little games people on here are talking about are just childish and passive aggressive. A way of trying to make yourself feel superior. No-one enjoys cold calling, but if you have a family to feed and it's the only thing available then you have to do it. It's amazing how brave people can be when protected by the anonymity of being on the end of a phone.
As for blowing a whistle down the phone, that's completely unacceptable. At best you could cause someone pain, at worst hearing damage. It would be the equivalent of punching a door-to-door salesman in the face. You'd be prosecuted and rightfully so.
PS, I've never worked in telesales myself.0
