Some people cannot read or do not understand !! This thread is clearly
labelled 'BEST COLD CALLER REBUKES HUNT' So what the heck has unwanted material through the post got to do with it ??? Are we expected to be rude to the envelope or packag it arrives in or rebuke it politely ?? Yes, I will accept a cold caller at the door, but not posted marketing junk.

My OH has managed to get rid of cold callers a few times. The first was someone ringing up to sell a different call package to which he replied that he didn't have a phone. This completely confused the coldcaller who said are you sure? My OH said I'm looking I'm looking.... nope don't see a phone. The coldcaller then said in a very confused tone oh ok well sorry for taking up your time. Strangely they never called back. The other one he asked if he could just put them on hold and put the phone down in front of the raido which was playing very loudly as we were having a BBQ outside. He checked them a few times and they stayed on the line for three songs! Obviously they like out taste in music! :D

A while back we started getting a lot of calls from indian call centres trying to tell us about IVAs. I very politely told them I wasn't interested on many occasions but finally they rang while I was waiting for a call about my very ill uncle. They asked to speak to my OH and I said I'm sorry he died (with a catch in my voice) to which they responded well could I speak to the house owner. I got very indignant with them and asked to speak to their manager. He put me through to the manager and I told them that the person they wanted was dead and I was very upset by them then asking to speak to the home owner. The manager appologised and told me he would take the number off the list and, touch wood, we haven't had any further calls from them!

I understand that these people are only doing their job and I try to be polite but I get frustrated when they keep talking after you've said you're not interested and please take the number off the list.

I once took a call at my Mother's house from a clothing catalogue company she had bought from. They asked for her and I was able to say sorry they couldn't speak with her, she was dead! Stunned silence from the other end.

Sadly it was true, the reason I was at the house was I was hosting the get together of the family after the cremation. Luckily the whole family share the same sense of humour and thought it was hilarious and that Mum would have loved it!
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Although a lot of these make for funny reading, the only excuse I can see for messing the caller about, being rude or getting irate is when you repeatedly receive unwanted calls from the same organisation.

Otherwise how about just politely saying no thank you and hanging up? What's wrong with that? These people are only trying to make a living.

I find that in situations when I've been wronged in such a way an icy-but-proper politeness works wonders.

Well, let's hope that they all fail to make a living at cold calling and find something which brings them an income without annoying other people and wasting their time.

    It doesnt work

I been down that route, I have a complaint with Ofcom and also TPS

    I still get cold calls

Thats why I have had enough and now bough a device to screen calls, I am sick and tired of wasting my time telling different people to stop

By law they must remove you for marketing the sad reality they often dont

Tell me, does this work for International Calls, where the number is not shown, as they are the main bugbear of my telephone ?

  • I find junk mail as annoying as cold calling, filling my recycle bin etc. A friend of mine said she would wrap up a house brick and stick on their return address envelope/post card and pop it back in the post. Has anyone done anything similar?

    :beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

Many years ago I was pestered with tons of junk mail from one particular insurance company. Despite writing and phoning to ask that I be removed from their mailing list, the junk kept coming.
I began tearing up their junk mail, ensuring that my address remained clearly legible, putting the remains in the reply-paid envelope and posting it back to them.
Within 3 months, the junk mail stopped, and I've never heard from them since!
