  • your upload is a bit low, though everything looks a lot better now which is great.
    should post your new stats from 192.168.100.1 the acc/pass is root/root.

    So there seems to have been something of an improvement then.;):j

    But is 0.24MB/s all Virgin allows its customer on the Upload side on this package. I don't expect you will know but some of our resident Virgin experts no doubt will.

    Presumably you are now finding that everything is running an awful lot faster now though?

    Much better now! You could try testing at different times of day to see if it makes any difference - even tests taken within minutes can be very different.

    I'll assume you really mean cable modem. ;)

    It's meant to be 0.51Mb/s on the 10Mb package but I rarely get that on the London server that Krissy used. Out of about 12 speedtests that I have done using the London server only one managed over 0.27Mb.

    However on the Maidenhead server I usually get around 0.47Mb.

    Thinkbroadband speedtest gives;

    So it looks like the London server that's the problem with upload speed testing rather than Krissy's connection.

    To be honest if it's upload speeds that are important avoid Virgin at the moment. With my O2 connection I usually get around 5.5Mb down and about 1.1Mb up.

    With my BT 20CN based connection through ADSL24 and Murphx I'm getting between 5.8Mb and 6Mb Down and a fairly constant 0.7Mb Up on their Office 15 package with a 7520kbps sync speed with the exchange. Of course it costs just over £23 per month but in a non LLU non WBCN BT 20CN exchange area anything acceptable broadband wise is at at least £18 per month and all the cheaper options below that involve broadband that either runs at snails pace during peak hours and/or has very low bandwidth caps (eg Virgin ADSL or PostOffice ADSL broadband).

    I still don't really understand why Chrissy's area is covered by Virgin Cable at all when the local BT phone exchange is such a small one. Her local village exchange has 2,700 homes served by it and no LLU and mine has 1900 homes served by it and also no LLU but for some reason Virgin decided that it was worthwhile to dig up all the streets of a small seaside town that would normally never be on the Virgin cable television network.

    that made no sense to me but thanks
  • Typical, I've only just come across this thread and I live in Saltburn. Could have saved you a whole lot of hassle! Glad to hear that all is OK now. The Saltburn exchange is, and probably will be for some time, somewhat of a broadband backwater compared to Redcar, Guisborough or Boro with cable being your only option for the faster speeds (8Mb+).

    Anyway, if you need any assistance in the future give me a shout and I'll see what I can do as that is my profession. Whatever you do don't use Easy PC on Dundas Street, they're rubbish and as my friend found out to his cost "they're not very good with laptops" after charging him £80 to completely !!!!!! his laptop up.
