Great 'disguised Own Brand' Hunt.

A sort of "disguised own brand" in reverse.
I liked Morrisons own brand "Best Loaf" (packaged in waxed paper). As I hadn't seen any of the shelves for a few weeks I approached a member of staff. Apparently the "Best Loaf" range has been discontinued. He also told me that Morrisons had bought out Rathbones bakeries and was promoting the Rathbones brand to replace the "Best Loaf" range. I have tried Rathbones bread in the past and did not like it.
Does anyone know if the Rathbones bread Morrisons is selling is made to the original Rathbones recipe or are they now baking to the "Best Loaf" recipe and standards but selling it under the Rathbones label?0 -
Noooo.....the morrisons 'best' was my favourite too.......dagnabit
have to say I am hooked on Hovis's 'white granary'. Lots of fibre and seeds and I would desribe it as 'half white' really0 -

Any coffee made by Kraft Jacobs Suchards is the same. I know, I used to package it!! The big cloth bags would come in, I'd check the codes and BB dates on the delivery slip, formulate a stock control list for that code of coffee, and 1 bag would go one way and be put in jars for Tesco,Asda or Sainsburys, one would go another and go into bags for Kenco Foodservice, and another would end up in single serve sachets for Maxwell House, and it was all the same code, same batch, same everything. The supermarket jar line would stop once that order was completed, the room would be empiied of packing materials and labels, the new boxes and labels would come in, the machine doing the labelling would be threaded up, and it would start again.July Grocery Challenge Budget £160

Nestle have a cereal wing, cereal partners, who supply the supermarkets as well. I used to work on the individual cartons. The little bags would be produced in bulk, then so many pallets of one label would be produced, then you'd swap outers and displays, and off you go again.July Grocery Challenge Budget £160

halloweenqueen wrote:A lot of marks and spencers chocs and sweet stuff is made at the chocolate factory in Fakenham, norfolk, I have also bought stuff they make for morrisons and asda, I think all the bang on the door stuff and a hell of a lot of advent calenders and easter eggs come ffrom there as well. There was stuff on sale at marks for £9.99 at halloween time that I was buying at fakenham for 2.50 - bargain!
I am not able to agree or disagree on this as it has been some time since i worked at the plant, however the company would be... kinnerton confectionary.... i also know they used to pack mars chocolate easter eggs, however mars would send the eggs themselves.... oooo tasty they were too0 -
Sugar_Junkie wrote:I found out through a friend of a friend Johnsons baby wipes and Tescos baby wipes are made in the same factory. I can't say if they are made in the same way but having used both to see if I could notice any difference they seemed exactly the same to me. This may not still be the case though as it was a while ago. Johnsons being twice the price I would certainly go for Tesco!0

Baxters of Speyside make M&S chutneys, soup, beetroot, sauces (pasta, dessert, etc) They also make same for Sainsburys, Waitrose. They make Tilda rices (the pouch varieties) I know this cos I work there! They usually follow the recipes set by the companies themselves and M&s basically provide half of there custom, if not more!!! SSh dont tell on me please0

OOPS I should have said their custom, not there. Sorry!0

Kraft make a lot of products for other supermarkets.
Coffee: Lyons is Krafts Own Brand Name and is used a lot in the Away from Home market i.e. Takeaway coffees in coffee machines.
They also supply all Gold varieties in supermarkets including ASDA, Tesco and M&S but not Sainsburys.
M&S curiosly strong mints in the tin were made the same as Altoids but Kraft have now sold this to Wrigleys.
Own Brand M&S chocolate slabs and Tesco's are also manufactured by Kraft
I know this as a "friend" used to work in their customer care department and if a fault is found with the supplied coffee it gets sent to the Kraft offices and they have to investigate it and then send it back to the supermarket.
I am sure that there is more as the listings are huge I was advised but this is all I can remember for the time being.0 -
I would just like say thank you to the BBC! If it wasn't for them I would never have found you!! :T
Anyway I work at John Smiths & they make all the supermarkets own brand bitters, not sure they are exactly the same but they do make it!
