Not sure about this but I bought some Aldi shampoo yesterday because it smelled just like Herbal Essences. I tried it and was so convinced it's the same that I sent back six of my bogof Herbal Essences when my shopping was delivered last night. It's 49p for 300ml instead of £2.80 for 400ml - even at 2 for 1 it's a good saving!
Yes I know it might be watered down .... blah blah... but it didn't seem to be.

cozzie wrote:I have a servis washing machine and think that it's fantastic value for money with the exception of the noise level, which, I feel is slightly higher than other machines. A friend of mine bought the same model upon my recommendation and her's is quieter but the dial is slightly out of alignment with the numbers.
As far as I can tell you Servis is a decent make which is practical, hard-wearing and does the job really well cosidering the very low cost of their items.
A word of warning! I bought a Servis washing machine which died on me after 18 months (pretty low usage too)... out of guarantee/Servis not interested.
Had it looked at by an engineer - the motor and circuit board gone (i.e., a manufacturing fault). The machine is 'beyond economical repair' - £250 worth of junk sitting in my kitchen - so beware.
Engineer tells me that Bosch, Miel, AEG & Zanussi are the 'better' makes.

This is my first ever post and its a very important one. TESCO QUALITY POTATO WAFFLES ARE THE BEST WAFFLES I HAVE TASTED IN MY LIFE. They taste even better than the Bird's Eye stuff on sale, you know, the fish finger ppl. Anyways, just had to let the rest of the world know. Thank you.0

Can anybody help with my question message 278
Anybody any ideas.0 -
Corned beef - very interesting product when you think what's in it, but Asda seem to have a design of their own. Tastes sloppy and runny whilst still being solid. Definately not recommended.

I'm not sure but Tesco do their own brand of anti-dandruff shampoo and it comes in all the same varieties as Head and Shoulders (frequent use, menthol, silky etc). It is the same colour and consistency as H&S and works just as well (no terrible reactions, phew!), so it is probably made by the same people?
Also, my boyfirend worked in a bacon factory which did Tesco, Kwik Save and Aldi (or Lidl, i get mixed up). The different was in how much fat was at the edge of the bacon. The more expensive (like tesco), specify it has to be a small amount of fat, and the cheaper ones can be a bit more. He has also worked for golden wonder and in a chicken factory so i will ask him more when i get home!0 -
Although new to this site I'm not a 'newbie' to getting value for money.
I have always checked out 'own brand' products from supermarkets on the basis that all the contents will have originated from a 'main stream' manufacturer somewhere. I don't think such outlets as Aldi, Tesco, Asda etc. have their own distilleries/breweries! Neither do they have their own bakeries, chemical plants/labs (for shampoos, health products etc), chocolate factories or canning plants for example.
Manufacturing costs are expensive so it's unlikely that a production line will be closed down in order so all the ingredients can be changed just to produce a 'cheaper' retail item. Also check out the list of ingredients of the 'cheaper' own brands against the more expensive known brands. One of the best examples is corned beef in ASDA I did this some years ago I compared the markings on the tins of 'Smartprice', ASDA's own brand and a major brand (can't remember which one now) and all the tins had identical stamps on the base of the tins & the ingrediants were the same. Smartprice was obviously the lowest but the others increased in price by approx.50% as I moved from bottom shelf up to eyelevel (main brand).
I have a number of friends & associates who steadfastly refuse to shop elsewhere than M&S or Sainsbury's for provisions or try any 'inferior' brands and would never venture into Aldi! But for years drank my high quality brand Cream Sherry which actually came from a plastic barrel at the local off-license but was served from a top brand bottle without complaint! Not all branded goods are wonderful but should be tried for comparison. I know I'm 'preaching' to the converted but wanted to make a point anyway.0 -
I tried Tesco value chocolate wafer biscuits the other day, 36p for 6 and they tasted fine, very similar to a branded chocolate wafer biscuit but can't think which one, Montana ones I think. I also bought some Tesco value tortilla chips, 25p a bag and they were fine too, not over salted. I find some of these snacks are very salty. I bought a multipack of M&S plain crisps for the boys for snacks for school etc and found them to be very salty. Whereas Tesco value ones were just fine, they were 58p for 12x 20g bags.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot.
