Great 'disguised Own Brand' Hunt.

On a similar note Bang & Olufsen LCD TV screens are made by Samsung and the Plasma screens are Panasonic although B&O do stick in alot of extras and they only use the most highly graded screens.
I used to work for House of Fraiser and I know that they owned the French Connection brand and used their designers for the Linea product range.
Anyone know anything about Laptops???0 -
I've been told that the biggest manufacturer of LCD screens is Samsung, and that most PC and TV screens originate from them - including Sony. I would be interested to see if anyone else has an opinion on this.
It may be that certain manufacturers make foodstuffs for high and low-end brands, BUT that doesn't mean the products are the same. I believe it was Which? magazine that revealed (years ago) the sophistication of food production lines, where canned peas (for example) made on the same line could not only have different ingredients (obvious), but the machines could be set to put more water - and fewer peas - in the can for the cheaper brands.0 -
It would be great if one of the technically gifted web guys/gals mod'ing this site could collate all this info and make a list/database of it, with the expensive item and its cheap(er) alternatives laid out side by side.

Hi all,
I used to write software that went into process control systems for various products. One such place was Walkers crisps. The software tended to have different levels: the machine that the potatoes went in spins round and goes up to a certain temperatures for example. For supermarkets own brands, they saved money by running the machines at slightly lower temperatures, lower spin, for not as long. So it wasn't 100% exactly the same crisp as the Walkers own, but it was the same ingredients, machines, etc.
This was well over 10 years ago, but I guess the same thing still happens.0 -

Anyway I work at John Smiths & they make all the supermarkets own brand bitters, not sure they are exactly the same but they do make it!). Happy MoneySaving!
If it's the brewery near the A64, I'm sure I've seen Fosters, Budweiser and others coming and going there. Do they make these "flavours" there as well?Jumbo

Does anyone know who makes Marks and Spencer's cosmetics, skin care and hair care range?0

Hi, I bought a Bosch washing machine in 1998 which cost over £600! I thought I would treat myself to something good, but dreaded the repair prices when it eventually went wrong. I looked up the part needed on the Bosch website and it was £58. (that's without anybody coming to do the repair and charging callout and labour). My son found a universal part for £10 on ebay shops and fitted it himself. Moral of the story - don't pay silly prices for branded parts and see if you can fit the part yourself.0

I did some temporary work for Helena Rubinstein once and they used to make M&S face creams, don't know if they still do.0
