If it's the brewery near the A64, I'm sure I've seen Fosters, Budweiser and others coming and going there. Do they make these "flavours" there as well?
Me?? Alcoholic??Hmmm not sure I know the meaning of the word
Scottish Courage Ltd (Soon to be known as S & N UK) has various different brands as their own, John Smiths, Fosters, Kronenburg (Our restaurant at work is known as JFK) & Strongbow which will all be made there, but they do supply other brands too on behalf of other brewers, Guinness, Budweiser, Carlsberg... etc if they agree to sell ours, so they are more likely picking up beer to take to their own depots to sell on for us.
But with S & N selling own brand bitters to supermarkets, they also get it cheaper depending on which shelf they agree to put it on! Mummy to Charlie & 2 beautiful twins due on Valentine's Day

All washing liquid (laundry not pots and pans  ) comes from the same giant tank in Worksop, so it doesn't matter which one you buy, they are all the same thing.
I know this cos I used to import the stuff from the continent.0 -
We are often encouraged to use skimmed milk when trying to loose weight and also in general but can anyone help me? as I see it milk is well, milk - so milk with the fat skimmed off it is , skimmed milk. Why is there such a variance of prices of various brands and own brands? :question:0

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I now have visions of tankers driving up labelled Persil, Daz, Tesco, Bold, etc and being filled with washing liquid!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -

An old boyfriend of mine used to work for Charles of the Ritz, and they made Yves St Laurent make up and Marks and Spencer make up - as well as the perfumes, this was a long time ago though. The formulations were different and YSL always used the most expensive ingredients, though apparently M&S were a close second!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
A lot of manufacturers also use other company's components but that doesn't necessarily mean that they're products are the same. Hitachi make components as do Sanyo and Bosch, so a Sanyo TV could have Hitachi components in it and probably half a dosen other manufacturers parts too. However the quality, layout and functionality of of said componets may not be the same and this might endow the finished product with vastly differing features and longevity.
Having said all that a lot of things now do seem to be identical and that's mainly because very few things are produced "in house" any more and a TV tube for example can be produced in a dedicated factory in the far east a lot cheaper than in the west. All that's then required for the big corporations is to set up a relativly small and inexpensive assembly line in the west, stick a made in EU logo on the back and the price at the checkout for you and I is doubled.
I would not however advocate buying cheap supermarket electrical components even if they come from apparently good quality manufacturers. I work for a landfill and recycling company and I see the backwash of all the seemingly good value products. i.e. Unhappy customers dumping 13 month old products, virtually new equipment being disposed of rather than repaired because it doesen't justify the expense. Appliances causing thousands of pounds of damage to property through flooding. (Three washing machine replacements after the other flooded this one poor sod's kitchen) TV's giving up the ghost after only 8 months only to be told they couldn't replace it because they didn't stock that make any more and offering a cheaper model as replacement. The list goes on.
You can see for yourselves how some white goods companies share components by searching a spareparts website like https://www.sparesrus.biz
They list compatable parts for different makes, but I must reiterate that doesn't mean that a Bosch and an Neff for example are identical. :think:0 -
something more expensive.
The following car manufacterers are the same, being part of the VW groups:
Audi
VW
Seat
Skoda.
the mechanics are the same, with the differences being styling at the most.
so:
A3=Golf=Leon etc.
however, there is a massive difference in price from the VW/AUdi to the Seat/Skoda.
I have a seat toledo and the engine, chassis, parts are all vw branded.
as an example:
2003 03 Reg SEAT Toledo 1.9 TDi SE 44,375 miles on autotrader = 7495
2001 Y Reg VOLKSWAGEN Golf 1.9 SE TDI 115 51,000 miles = 8000
so, two years (ones still under warrenty) and £500 cheaper!
so do yourself the favour and buy the seat/skodas, and save a packet!0 -

D.
Like the local guy who sold a second hand Bosch dishwasher to my parents as new. They only admitted this when my mum overheard the person from the shop, who had come round to check when it became faulty, tell somebody on their mobile that the machine was a previous return item.
Or the other local retailer - now closed thankfully - who sold a £50 microwave to an vunerable great aunt for £200. We found this out when the receipt turned up when her home had to be cleared.
These are the same people wingeing about big retailers coming into our market town and taking their business. There are dodgy traders, of all degrees, everywhere, size or locality counts for nothing, do your own research and check everything!Joe

I swapped my Passat for a Toledo a few months ago. It was much cheaper, and has far more toys than the Passat did. Only downside is the rear legroom (it's more Bora-sized), and the Passat interior was slightly nicer to look at. In terms of quality, most the switchgear is identical, it's a VW engine and VW mechanicals.
Overall, a complete bargain.0
