Just an amusing story to prove the point so to speak - my husband used to work on Rolls Royce aircraft engines and the ball bearings used on some of the components are exactly the same as the ones used on domestic washing machines but for the aircraft they paid around £300 and you can buy them for the washing machine for probably £30 at the most! Therefore, if you need a bearing for your aircraft engine - buy a washing machine one!!!

Just to clarify things, I can't vouch for whether this story is true or not, but for parts to go in aircraft engines there is an enormous audit trail of quality standards to ensure plane engines are airworthy. The washing machine versions are cheaper because if your washing machine bearing breaks down its not going to drop out of the sky!

I have know this for years now Sal and I am not entirely convinced that Body Shop stuff is rigidly cruelty free as it used to be. Even if it is.. then your money still goes now to L'oreal who test on animals which is why I cannot use Body Shop any longer. For those who wish to avoid animal testing and money save, Boots own brand products are not tested in animals and are quite good value.

If you want to buy truly cruelty free products rather than relying on manufacturers claims then then you can have a look at
    http://gocrueltyfree.org/b_shopcrueltyfree.php .
I used buy Boots products but emailed them to check their animal testing policy and their reply stated that although they didn't test products themselves they used products and ingredients others had tested. They said 'this is true of Boots and most other cosmetic companies' so I realised they weren't at all committed to stopping animal testing. I buy Co-op own brand beauty (and household) products which are approved by BUAV and have a fixed cut off date policy. They are also very reasonably priced.
  • Ford do not produce Mazda products, but are a minor shareholder in the company. The Fiat 500 & Ford Ka are produced in a plant in Poland.

I thought ford Produced Mazda's. They were also involved with Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar, Aston Martin. Some have now been sold off

Saab were owned by GM (vauxhall) but with all the upheaval i'm not sure if they still are.

Audi-VW-Seat- Skoda all owned by VW audi group and use the same engines and chassis as each others coresponding car.

The fiat 500 and the ford KA are made on lines next to each other at a Fiat plant in Italy
  • I work at george at asda and heard from a next employee that the same factory makes both our clothing, and just changes the labels.I then started to notice similar items made with different fabrics, and of course next is twice the price. So I would say its probably true.

  • Worked for clearblue preg test manufacturing company for 20 years. They make all preg tests all around the world. Same chemicals, same people, same technology, just different packaging. Top brands to cheap tesco brands. Difference is price. Don't be fooled cheap is best!

Yea this is true I work for an aircraft parts manufacturing company and every part has loads of paperwork and can be traced all the way back from who put it on the airplane to who approved the raw materials to be aircraft quality. If we stamp a job card to say we made it properly and the part fails then we can even be sent to jail if the plane ends up crashing and they can prove it wasn't a mistake.

To the poster who reckons Dewalt stuff is better than B&D, since 1998 Dewalt have been part of B&D.

If you take-apart both a B&D and a Dewalt drill, you will find that all the components are the same. The only differance is that the new B&Ds use mainly metal gearing, but Dewalt use plastic.
