i used to work for moypark chicken which has 3/4 sites in northern ireland and quite a few in england
moypark supplies own brand chicken to tesco, sainsburys, morrisons, centra, and some asda as well as a load of smaller chains and some top hotel chains
in relation to whole chicken and chicken breasts etc there is no difference between supermarkets and between own brand and extra value brand and most of the chicken comes from mexico. Tesco finest or equivalent come from a differnt, organic source but are processed and packaged in the same factorys
in relation to processed chicken, the own brand stuff is all the same between supermarkets with slight differences in quanities of filler and flavourings etc but not enough to make any difference. Personally i wouldn't touch any value range of processed chicken cause there is almost no chicken in it and certainly no chicken breast but contrary to popular belief, there are no crushed bones or other crap in there.
Precooked chicken is all pretty much the same as well between supermarkets, just different recipies for different sauces ie tikka
M+S used to get chicken from moypark but it was unprofitable because they insisted on things being hand processed and hand cut etc so they are a better grade of food0 -
Does anyone know whether Cadbury choc Trifle's branded under another name by any chance. I do know that the Muller dairy make them under licence, so they must be duplicated somewhere in the food chain I reckon?0

I was told by a member of M&S staff last week that their cosmetics are made by Clarins, which you can tell if you look at the packaging as it resembles the Clarins packaging. Thorntons still make chocolates for M&S - again you can tell as the packaging is very similar.0

DeWalt is a product line created by Black & Decker in 1992. The Dewalt professional range is a more robust tool in my opinion having used both and dropped both from a great height. The ones I have left that have stood the test of time are all DeWalts or Metabos. It,s horses for courses B&D range for the DIY'r, DeWalts & Metabo etc for the Pro's.
My hubby works for a powertool supply company and has said exactly that - he has seen many a customer come back with cheap items and want to get them fixed, it's barely worth it, but as his company are agents for some of those brands they have to take them in for repair (but they do not sell them).
He would choose Dewalt and the more expensive pro brands everytime over the DIY tools sold in most chains. Over time the pro brands save money as they are more durable and more reliable.MFW #185

Are you sure it's not just that the packaging is made to look like that of Clarins etc?0 -

For example, all electricals that we sell come direct from the supplier to the customer, if you phone our large appliances hotline you actually speak to a completely different company who tell you theyre M&S, the party food to order we sell is made by a third party, the made to measure shirts are made by a company in sweden or somewhere and we dont even take the money, it goes straight to shirts.net. all our furniture is made in china and turkey and all our 'basic' kitchenware is the same as tesco value, just twice the price. the point is, if your thinking of buying something from M&S, dont.
Well I didn't think all their gear was made by a workshop full of elves, just out the back of the shop......
How else did you think M&S were supposed to stock their stores? Big difference is the M&S customer service and aftercare, which - aside, I assume, from when some poor sod rings up and gets someone as lugubriously negative as yourself - is very good; streets ahead of any other player on the High Street in my experience.0 -
I worked for Walkers Shortbread one summer. The shortbread fingers would be coming down the line (all from the same batch) and we would be swapping the wrappers from M&S, Walkers own, Lidl, Tesco Finest, Disney, etc etc. All the same stuff, prices varying by as much as £3 (prob more for the Disney but they were going to Florida so $). We also made delicious biscuits with toffee pieces covered in chocolate for Thorntons.
Incidentally it was several years before I could eat shortbread again, I was so sick of the smell.0 -
If you have one of those local indoor meat stores, the ones that just have fridge & freezer isles - then look out for the chicken nuggets, if you see most of the nuggets are 2 nuggets stuck together then these are McDonalds seconds. Kids love them (Disclaimer about don't feed your kids chicken nuggets constantly:)) and they are really cheap! - Great for parties, kids birthdays etc...0
