  • A. Mushrooms & Mushrooms! (south-west)
    B. I used to work for them
    C. All mushrooms in the south-west come from the same farm. Tesco, Sainsburys, fresh, tinned, whatever, they are all the same. The value ones are possibly a day or two older but that's all.

Some time ago, there was a farmer complaining. on the BBC farming program, that he was the last mushroom farmer left in England; because he had to pay his pickers minimum wage plus a bonus by weight picked.
Meanwhile in Poland mushroom pickers got 50p per hour.
Well our sinking pound has probably raised the 50P to 70P now?

50 pence an hour? Hardly, minimum wage in Poland is actually nearly 2 pounds an hour. Of course, I don't expect your average uneducated British farmer to know this ;)
    From Poland...with love.

The books are sitting just there on the floor.
  • Theres a factory in Blackburn Lancs that makes Bakewell tarts and mince pies etc. They are all made in exactly the same way but packaged into boxes for M&S, Morrisons, Sainsbury's & Asda

    Hi

The Previous person didnt mention White or Wholemeal - does that mean that the Wholemeal you mention is exactly the same flour as Tesco Value Plain, Asda Smart Price Plain etc?

No - Allinson does not produce wholemeal culinary flour for anyone else.

L'Oreal also own The Body Shop. Now I am sure the products are very different, Body shop do not test on animal however...L'Oreal do so if you are bothered about that or ethics then this info may be interesting to you.
I have know this for years now Sal and I am not entirely convinced that Body Shop stuff is rigidly cruelty free as it used to be. Even if it is.. then your money still goes now to L'oreal who test on animals which is why I cannot use Body Shop any longer. For those who wish to avoid animal testing and money save, Boots own brand products are not tested in animals and are quite good value.

Good ideaa Steer. I have never bought L'oreal since I found out they animal test about 15 years ago but have used some in samples in mags. I find them very inferior products anyway.

  • Just to let you know that Kelloggs only make their own cereals and don't make own label products for any of the big supermarket chains.

If it doesn't say Kelloggs on the box, it isn't Kelloggs in the box!

Weetabix and Nestle, however, do make own label cereals for the retailers......FACT
  • Just because a brand name product manufacturer makes own label products for the supermarkets does not mean that the supermarket brand is the same as the brand name product. Even if they come from the "same line" things can be very easily changed. Raw material specifications, formulas/recipes, even the making process to a degree. Most products are made in batches, so its very easy for the manufacturer to switch from one formulation to another. In some cases i'm sure they are both the same product, but in many cases the cheaper brand will have cheaper ingredients
  • QUOTE=warmhands.coldheart;
There are over 50 pages on this thread now and frankly don't have the time to read through them all but I know when I bought my Petrol Flymo lawnmower last year the instructions had Husqvarna on them which is a pretty good brand in deed.END QUOTE

Husqvarna OWN several brands including Flymo, Gardena, Partner and McCulloch - all big market leaders, different styles, different qualitys.....

Anyone know if they are they all made in the same place?

If you bought a Husqvarna tractor for cutting your lawn would you be impressed if it had a FLYMO label on it, or on the instructions?
  • Hi all

This ones for all trades and diy people out there, if you are thinking of buying an expensive drill be aware that DEWALT are only black and decker drills in a yellow dewalt casing as much as the same as most power tools (hidden makes in a different casing).

Ive found that some of wickes own branded stuff is made by a good german brand called metabo (sorry may be spelt wrong).

so dont spend loads on tools just choose a battery drill with a good amp hour life in them (pref li-ion) 2.0 amh or higher this will allow you to work for longer periods.
other tools just check the power output and other info about the tool to before you buy as you will find that you may need a higher powered motor to do the job properly without knackering the tool in the first 5 minutes of use.

best places to look for good cheaper branded tools are places like screwfix ,tool station and any other trade or diy outlet.

DeWalt is a product line created by Black & Decker in 1992. The Dewalt professional range is a more robust tool in my opinion having used both and dropped both from a great height. The ones I have left that have stood the test of time are all DeWalts or Metabos. It,s horses for courses B&D range for the DIY'r, DeWalts & Metabo etc for the Pro's.
