Great 'disguised Own Brand' Hunt.

Hi Mod,
any chance of sorting this board out into different categories? I came on here mainly to find out about branded foof being sold as supermarkets own or am I on the wrong board?
There seems to be everything from cosmetics, DIY stuff, appliances hell even cars!!
I am not sure about cosmetics but electrical appliances - you get what you pay for. A Panasonic TV is going to be a lot better than a Durabrand.
A Matsui MP3 player is not going to be as good as a Sony.
A Beko washing machine is not going to be as good as a Bosch or Miele!
Come on!! Hell, people are obviously on the Internet so I am not sure why people would buy any Currys / Dixons / Tescos own brand?
However Aldi and Lidls electricals may not be the best but you get a 3 year warranty on most things - Mr Tesco doesn't offer that does he, and he's quite poor! Hmmm.....
I will just resolve the drill argument. Dewalt may be better than B&D - THE best drills are MAKITA!!! And Bosch jigsaws are pretty good to. Again these decent makes can be picked up on the Internet for the same or less as B&Q and their like will sell you one.0 -

The shortbread fingers would be coming down the line (all from the same batch) and we would be swapping the wrappers from M&S, Walkers own, Lidl, Tesco Finest, Disney, etc etc. All the same stuff, prices varying by as much as £3 (prob more for the Disney but they were going to Florida so $). We also made delicious biscuits with toffee pieces covered in chocolate for Thorntons.
Incidentally it was several years before I could eat shortbread again, I was so sick of the smell.
I worked as a chicken catcher one summer while at Uni. I couldn't eat chicken for at least 6 months. Ironically I then progressed up the career ladder to selling cooked chickens at Sainsburys on their Food to Go section. The waste was phenomenal.
Contrary to what we are being spun by the do gooders - Jamie and Hugh - these chickens did not live in terrible conditions. Out of a barn of 2000, where they are all raised I would say we found roughly 20 dead birds!!
Cheap Pork, bacon, sausages etc - those pigs farmed abroad do live in truly horrible conditions because pigs are a lot more intelligent than a dumb chicken.
Just going to get some cheap bacon down Lidl!!0 -
Sillywilly the chicken catcher :rotfl::rotfl:Oh dear that's the end of me today!"Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0

But who makes Erbauer tools? That way I might be able to find the spare parts I need!
Erbauer products ar made by several different manufacturers. The largest is the same company who owns Worx tools, and has produced/produces B&Q, Challenge, Rockwell, Electrolux products and few more around the world (even some super cheap retailers in the UK like boyes and woolworths).
Look closely at your Erbauer tool, and compare it to an item i the Worx range - if there is an identical one just with different colours or casing then you should be able to get your worx replacement because the company makes mostly their electrical equipment (which is also sold to other power tool companies), they only buy in the motors. [Stuff like all drills, jigsaws, sanders, etc are the same]
Also, someone earlier commented that there isnt much difference between cheaper diy tools and more expensive commercial/trade tools - well there really is, everything is slightly tougher/stronger, tested for longer and more durable
I know all this as a good friend of mine was in charge of design and engineering from 2000 - 2008.0 -
I'm not surprised Thorntons make some choccies for M&S as they do taste similar.0

I used to buy Morrisons own brand nappies and they were just like huggies ones but without the disney pictures on. Then they changed the design slightly and I didn't like them so much so I went back to huggies own but they had changed also exactly like morrisons. I am pretty sure they are the same only difference is huggies have disney design and morrisons don't.0

As far as cordless Drills are concerned i would argue this one, having had both i would choose Dewalt over Makita, but its all about personal choice and what fits your hand best.
Doesnt matter if its better if you prefer a different one0 -
That is true, but try using that one in one of the stores renowned for bugging you to take out an extended guarantee, when you turn up a day over the guarantee.
I was once told to my face, by the greasy obnoxious manager with zero people skills, in a certain large very well known store in my town, which I'd better not name I guess, that he didn't care about the law, he would ignore it.
I do hope you didn't let him get away with that !!mmmm, still seeking something witty to be my auto-signature . . . so this will have to suffice for now0 -
I avoid buying Nestle products for ethical reasons so I often buy shop own brand 'shreddies' - does anyone know if these are also made by Nestle, as I will stop buying them if so?
Thanks!0 -
