This is true, i know this because i work for sainsbury's and when Mcvitie had a fire last year (I think!) We had absolutley no own brand biscuits!;)Going to get back in control of my finances the old school way!:cool:0 -
Hello all,
First time reader of this particular thread and long time shopper at Tesco. Due to recent surges in food prices I decided to try some value products as per Martins advice. My findings are as follows:-
ALL TESCO- Value Pasta Tubes - 19p for 500g - really good - not soggy etc
- Value Low Fat Mayo - 49p for a big jar - cant tell the difference AT ALL - we used to buy Hellmans about £3 for same thing - NEVER AGAIN
- Value Bran Flakes - 74p for a huge box - IMPORTANT - These are EXACTLY THE SAME as Tescos Light Choices Bran Flakes which come in a prettier box and cost double the price @ approx £1.15 for THE SAME THING!!!!
- Value Fresh Orange (From Concentrate) Its ridiculously cheap and tastes identical to their own make - it really is ridiculous that we have been spending so much on orange juice when this is like 20p or something silly for a big carton....
- Value Kitchen Roll 99p for two thick rolls - MUCH BETTER THAN ANY OTHER WE HAVE TRIED AND THEY LAST AGES!
My other half was VERY RELUCTANT to try these things but I bought them anyway so he didnt have a choice and he totally agrees now.
It will take a while before we choose value tea/coffee/washing powder etc - though if anyone else has any TESCO VALUE products that they would like to recommend then I would like to hear about them to try them.
Thanks. Steff:hello:My name is Steff and I am a Vegas Addict :j0 -
Does anyone know if there are any "newborn" disposable Nappies out there, the same as Pampers?
Im not speaking through personal experience BUT my brother has been using nappies from Aldi for his son (who is now 11 months old) for a while now - not sure if he used them from newborn, but I do remember him saying that Pampers were a rip off and these ones were just as good - anyone else out there know if you can get newborn nappies at Aldi's?

Thanks for your post about the Tesco Value range, that's really useful for us. We have been trying the Sainsbury's Basics range, here is what we've tried so far:
VEG: Mushrooms, courgettes, carrots, peppers, spring onions are all just as good as 'normal' ones. :T
FRUIT: Bananas, plums are good too. :j
BISCUITS: Digestives and milk chocolate digestives are both lovely.
CAKE: Madeira was awful!
YOGHURT: Low fat fruit yoghurts are horrid, my husband says they don't even seem like yoghurt (!) :lipsrseal0 -
just to let you know, there's a big thread on the old style board about value brands that might be worth a look if you want to research more!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

I bought the Tesco classic one - decanted it into an empty Nescafe jar and hid the empty. Kept this up for weeks, and he never once complained about his coffee - even asked him if his coffee was okay! Only complained about it once he knew it was different!!! No surprises there - lol. However, took him shopping - told him I would pay the £2.00 for the Tesco one - he could pay the extra £2.00 for the same sized jar and we would get the Nescafe! Guess which one we brought home!
That is totally my view of some things decant them and no one will ever know its not the original.0 -
McVities make own brand biscuits for Tesco, Sainsburys etc but NOT the value/basics biscuits. So Tesco digestives in the blue wrapper are made by McVities, Tesco value digestives are not.
McVities also make things for Quality street, Foxes, and th biscuit bit of the Bisc And XYZ things. Just some useless information!2013 wins: March - book,0 -
I've just had a couple of ASDA Smart Price digestives and to me they taste like McVities.
Same with their Smart Price Jaffa Cakes.0 -
I'm not sure whether this has already been asked, but what about cat food? Do companies that produce, say Whiskers or Felix produce supermarket own brand tins?
With regards to other value brands, I find that Morrisons' value bourbon
biscuits are better than most.
I almost always buy value pasta, and supermarket value pasta sauces are fine for a quick pasta salad too.
Value fruit and fiber cereal is always good to. Tastes similar to other brands and you can always add extra dried or fresh fruit.Looking forward to the future.0 -
Automotive Stuff:
Halfords Car Batteries - Yuasa or Bosch (Poor value unless on 'trade')
Halfords Motor Oil - Comma (Still poor though.)
Motaquip Filters - PSA (Peugeot/Citroen.)
Motaquip engine oil - Shell Helix
Peugeot or Citroen car parts are generally interchangable, worth getting quotes on equivelent other model, "BMW" Mini generally uses PSA parts too.
Halfords Pro Tools - Britool (Very good value)
Motaquip/Unipart Timing belt kits - Gates (good value.)
I'll think of some more later.
Regards,
Andy0
