I tried to read all the posts to make sure this hadn't already been mentioned, but I ran out of time!!
So, I worked for Bendicks of Mayfair Chocolates for a few months, and they made & packed all the mints for Marks & Spencers.
PS its true-you really are allowed to eat as many chocolates as you want! YUM!
  • I used to work for Superdrug and was told that their own brand stuff was made by companies like Unilever that make things like imperial leather, just the quality control wasn't as strict. The pharmasist also told me that alot of Superdrug's own brand medicines contained exactly the same ingredients as brands like nurofen and anadin.

This is def true.My mum-in-law is an experienced pharmacy assistant as always buys 'generic' or own brand medicines/creams etc. Always ask if there is a generic version. Children's medicines are awful-Calpol being so expensive when it is just paracetamol suspension-buy generic and save a fortune. Poor parents are often sucked in by brands they 'trust' for their children (i was one of them!) but often the ingredients are exactly the same. Ask your pharmacist and i'm sure they will identify the product you need.
  • Somebody mentioned medicines -

I'm a final year student doctor and I always tell patients:
ALWAYS BUY OWN BRAND PARACETAMOL, ASPIRIN etc!

They're around the 15p mark in some of the big supermarkets. They do exactly the same job as their highly branded counterparts (they have to!). 500mg of paracetamol is 500mg of paracetamol nomatter how pretty the packaging.

Some of the posher 'combination' tablets for colds and flu have paracetamol, a decongestant and some caffeine in them - just buy normal paracetamol, a bottle of olbas oil (will last a lifetime and steam inhalation works far better anyway!) and make a pot of tea!

P.s. remember never to go over the recommended doses, careful not to burn your face on the steam inhalation

I have been told that the sugar and salt content of Lidl and aldi food is a lot healthier than uk high street brands because the German legislation is stricter than ours. Dont know if this is true though.

i purchased a stainless steel microwave oven/grill from argos, it broke down around 1 year later, when i rang argos to find out if it would be exchanged for another, the lady i spoke to told me that it wouldnt, so i asked for de longhi's number, ans she told me there would be no point ringing them as argos manufactuer them and de longhi give them permission and badges to put on the appliances, she also stated that its the same with a lot of electrical products available from argos:confused::confused::confused:

exactly the same with Kenwood and Currys, etc.

  • I know for a fact that Alpro Soya milk is the same as Tesco Soya Milk - it is just packaged in Tesco's cartons. The same with red wine sold at Aldi is also sold at Tesco under a different label for double the price. The trick with the wine is to check out the supplier's address / post code. i.e if it is NN, then the same product is sold at Aldi a lot cheaper. I now look at address etc and compare.:T
  • Has won IWSC Gold award this year in Blended class.By clicking on producer McDonald & Muir it shows as www.glenmorangieplc.com:j
  • Apologies if this one has already been mentioned - not sure who makes it but I bought my OH some painkillers from Boots the other day, and since he's not much good with swallowing regular tablets he always asks me to get Nurofen sugar-coated (£1.59 for 16 tablets). I picked up a pack of Value Health brand ones as well (£0.37 for 16 tablets) - since they're ibuprofen the active ingredient doesn't vary - expecting them to be the cheap, chalky type, but they were exactly the same. Guess what I'm buying next time!
  • I know that Rowntrees used to make Morissons' own brand Jelly, as my dad used to work for them and they would often have Morissons jelly in the employee shop. I think that Hartleys now make Rowntrees jelly though, so I'm not sure if they still make Morissons'.
