Again, just listening to radio 4's money programme an hour ago, the first thing they mentioned was the fact that deferred payments weren't increasing.0

I agree with Jenniferjane. Without our car we'd find life pretty restricted. OK, we could shop online for almost everything we need including groceries, we bank online, no need to go anywhere for that. We could get taxis if we needed to - church on Sundays for instance - but the main thing we'd miss the car for is the freedom to just 'pick up and go'. The first lovely day we had recently we drove to a nearby wildlife centre. We often say 'Let's just go down the seafront'. We've had some lovely holidays with car and ferry.
The swimming pool I've been going to is 7 miles away. Have just discovered one in the neighbouring borough, 5 miles, free. http://www.creatingleisure.co.uk/centres/3/home/Belfairs-Swim-Centre.aspxÆr ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
Before I found wisdom, I became old.0 -
I will have to use taxis and public transport every day for five weeks very shortly, and I've already discovered it's a total PITA. I think I'm paying the price for the luxury of being a car owner for almost 50 years..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Errata bought a dishwasher and Jennifer Jane bought a car. These items are my luxuries and when I give them up, I'll give up!" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I did check with my neighbour the undertaker and he assured me there are definitely no pockets in a shroud.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I'm having a knee operation later this week and I'm told that I won't be able to drive for six weeks!!! I live on my own and even though my son and daughter will gladly help from time to time, neither of them live exactly round the corner, so I will be able to see precisely how I can manage without a car. Not looking forward to it. I'll be on-line to Ocado I suspect. Or chatting up taxi drivers.0

Good luck with the surgery. It may not be a good idea to flash your knees at taxi drivers under the circs !.................

Thanks, chesky, and the reason I've made so much of this is, that you know that Brown and Darling will be going on about the huge, over-inflation, 2.5% increase on the Basic State Pension.
While this is technically correct, it's also fudging (as he did with the 10% tax band fiasco).

This sums it up for me too - my mental health, social life, and actually physical health too, as while I could walk to swimming, I am very tired getting back, and yours is 5 miles away. Glad you found a pool though with free swimming. It's a brilliant thing which I hope the new Govt retains!0
