food prices are fairly static atm/council tax in many areas wont go up by musch more than 2.5%(the same as state pension),and from what i`ve seen petrol is cheaper than it was 18 months ago
and its based on what happened the previous september which is always the case, remember last year pensions went up 5% because rpi in sept 08 was 5%
It really hacks me off when pensioners moan about their pensions under this govt, they`ve had a good deal under labour especially poorer oaps who have a gaurantee of £130 a week (single)£190 week(couple)plus other benefits like hb and ctb0 -

Cany believe what Ive just read here!!! Petrol cheaper than it was 18months ago!!!!! and what about the continual rising cost of gas/electricity. Oh hang on here its just gone down some 7% after nearly dou7bling in price!!!! I see food prices rising everyday not going down (we have to change what we buy) transport costs up all the time. If you have worked hard all your life and own your home you have the up keep of it, try doing that on less than £130 and that includes pension credit which IS MEANS TESTED!!
I have many friends from europe who are much better off than our pensioners are here.Look after the pennys and the pounds will look after themselves:money:0 -
Don't get stressed, Dorisday, there are obviously people around who really believe that all pensioners are living in the lap of luxury.0

I shall now enjoy with a clear conscience my pensioner supper of an expensive salmon starter, fillet steak, and a luxury pudding, washed down with champagne followed by a 5 star brandy :j On the other hand, I may wake up in a minute.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Woodbine as a good idea of what's what.
And come the election, the rest of us need to remember what's what.
Anyone remember Ken Clark, whisky in one hand, a cigar in the other reading is budget. One of the things he done in is last budget was put Vat at 17.5% on gas and electric bills. Labour wanted to take all the Vat off in their first budget, however the common markets rules forbid taking Vat off once it had been put on, and only managed to get it to 5%.
And mrs Thatcher out side 10 downing street saying we are going to abolish all restraints on banks. And her exact words were. THE BANKS KNOW BEST HOW TO MANAGE THEIR OWN BUSINESS. Once the train as been set in motion, in them circumstances it will only stop when it hits the buffers.
Anyone remember any more life changing things they done?0 -

18 months ago the uk average petrol price was 113p litre, yesterdays national average was 110.9p(you were saying?)
last month the annual increase on a (large sample)basket of grocery was only 1%
gas/electric prices havent double over the last year and the 7% is therefore a real reduction, you can get it down by signing up to your providers online tarriffs(mine is upto 40% less than standard tarriff)or as a pensioner you are eligable for staywarm(fixed cost power)
as for transport cost up all the time, surely a free bus pass is still free even a year later?
like I said moaning pensioners, this one didnt even know the facts !0 -

No, all pensioners are not rich. But neither are all pensioners poor. There will be some at either extreme and many in the middle.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Never said they were Margaret. However, it does have to be said that most pensioners are living on incomes which are slightly (if not greatly) below the national average. Was just helping DD not to get upset by woodbine's comments.
Perhaps there ought to be an age limit (over 60?) on this thread??????
(and before anyone gets in a tizz, I was joking). It's a pity you can't hear tone of voice in the written word.0 -
You are NOT a pensioner and must be a politician who keeps talking about the AVERAGE the figures you qoted are all on the average which government paper have you been reading. Its time to live in the real world!!

I never said i was a pensioner, however I do have to survive on benefits many of which are being "increased"well below 2.5%,neither am I politician, the figures i quote are from the internet/and the grocer magazine.
Nor do I see the difficulty of getting on staywarm,if you qualify its not a problem,i know a number of pensioners many of them have been on it for at least 5 years on my recomendation
Btw imho its working pensioners that are stopping family men and women finding jobs !!!!!!!!!!!0
