OS Daily Thread - Thursday 25th February

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 25th February. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Nessie - Hope your husbands hospital appt went well.
Noahs - Treacle might not be very fast, and she might only have three teeth left, but when it comes to tuna she wouldn't fight fair, so look out fatcat!!
By the way, did you decide to buy that stationery I showed you for the wedding? I know you were tempted...
Snoozer - sorry I got the day wrong honey.. sending you lots of hugs and I hope the op goes well for you.

Tris was allowed home a few days ago, but is still struggling with his breathing and is surrounded by machines to help with that, but he is much happier in himself being back with his family. He hasn't been well enough to log on in a few days, the move home knocked him for six but I talk to either his sister or our friend. Michelle has also been discharged which is fabulous news.
I managed to bake some fab peanut butter cookies (if I do say so myself), plus a Weetabix cake and a pastry less tuna quiche plus a flapjack summer fruit crumble. (fruit from the freezer) A friend dropped round for coffee just as the weetabix loaf was coming out of the oven and had three warm slices with butter on!
Breakfast is toasted Weetabix loaf, lunch is planned to besavoury rice and dinner will be tuna quiche and baked potatoes.I hope everyones day starts well and that anyone feeling poorly
feels better soon. With love, light and warm gentle
for all.

Good morning MSD and all who follow.
MSD - I'm so pleased that Tris is finally back home but sorry that the move took so much out of him. Let's hope he has an easier time of it from now on.
Our ATM problem was finally resolved yesterday; after three visits to the local post office, we were told to go into the main office and collect the missing €280. They had studied the print-out from the machine, identified our transaction, and found that there was €280 too much in it so, after having to sign lots of paperwork (the French do so love their paperwork!), the money was back where it belonged.
DH is working today which means that I get a much-needed break from the renovation work that's going on today. The front hall is really coming on now. It's a big room and has had a staircase put in it, with a cupboard built in underneath, all the walls have needed plaster-boarding apart from the areas where we want the stone to show through, a little internal window has been cut into a room that felt a bit cut off from the rest of the house (we just have to decide whether to glaze it with glass or glass bricks) and there's an alcove we don't know what to do with yet. We need to take all the furniture out of it over the next few days, then I shall take some photos and post them. There's still a long way to go, though, because the floor will need tiling and ....so it goes on!
Dinner is something with mince - probably shepherd's pie. Next month dinner will be whatever can be achieved in a kitchen that will be in the process of being re-designed and re-fitted. I shall be SO glad when the downstairs is finally finished, especially as we have quite a few visitors coming over from around Easter onwards.
The weather has been awful - really wet and windy but, thankfully, not as cold as it has been. I know it's nothing as bad as the UK has been having, though. We see the forecast on TV and can't believe all the snow in Scotland. Everyone must be so fed up with it. Spring is long overdue, I think.
Anyway, today, because I should get some peace and quiet and not get roped into helping DH, I should be able to spend more time on here. I'm missing so much on this thread.
I hope you all have a good day. Lots of (((hugs))) to all those who are poorly or anxious.

Good morning

Ive had my 1st coffee and now a bit more awake :rotfl:
Ive just let my little dog out and its very misty here but the birds are singing their little heads off

It is so nice to hear in the morning (untill a great big lorry goes thundering by ) I live on the main road through the village but on the other side is a sheep field and the hills with loads of trees so when it is quiet it's lovely.
Im hopeing today will be less hectic as I need to have a good house cleaning session (not been done for a few days).

.
Hope eveyone had a good day today and hope all that were feeling poorly are on the mend, ((hugs)) to you all

Sistercas - yes, I will post photos! That beep may have been your smoke alarm warning you that the battery needs replacing so don't forget to check it.

Good morning

I'm also on my 1st coffee of the day & it's hitting the spot nicely! I washed a load in the WM overnight so it's on it's 2nd load now and the TD is doing its thing. Dogs are fed and watered and I'm enjoying the peace before everyone else gets up.
I have found another crochet addict in the tutor on the course - we are swapping patterns and websites galore :rotfl: It's a four day week so today is the last day of my first week! Thanks for the support re being so tired - I managed to stay up until 10pm last night

Diva Your baking sounds very yummy! I can definitely reccommend your life coaching skills to anyone. You've helped me tons & tons recently :A
Hart Hope you get the housework sorted out.
Sistercas Our smoke alarm beeps intermittently when the batteries need changing - could it have been that? I hate unexplainied beeps they drive me mad
I hope that the poorlies are feeling better and massive
to anyone who needs them. Have a good day xx 0 -
Morning all

Busy day yesterday, so didn't manage to catch up with the thread. Hope everyone's ok
The girls have Japanese today, so I need to go and wake them up shortly. They both had new hairstyles done yesterday, so no doubt will be spending an age with the straightners
Thank goodness mine is wash, dry and go
I need to order repeat prescriptions, so will do that now, before I wake them.
They had kick-boxing last night, rather than on Monday and it actually works out better for me as I'm not rushing from fencing so they can eat then rushing to kick-boxing. I changed days with them last night, so that's sorted
Not much OS'iness going on again today.
Have just taken the washing out, which was mainly towels, and they are now hanging over the banisters to dry.
We're eating out later, so no dinner to worry about either.
Good to hear Tris and Michelle are back home, Diva
Hope you all have a good day and (((HUGS))) to those poorly or in need

Morning to everyone! Coffee downed, kids have been up since I don't know when - argh! Tomorrow am getting up early to go and see MIL who has been recently diagnosed with 2ndry cancer - it doesn't look good. However she's very positive about it.
So plan to look through the fridge and see what might go off - have to cook and freeze it today; then want to make some gingernuts to take to her to help ward off any nausea.
Have to drop boys off in school, have two meetings about eldests behaviour, put dogs into kennels and then when the boys finish school I'm taking them to an indoor play area to tire them out - I know it costs, but it pays for itself as they're so tired they go straight to sleep instead of causing havoc!
Have planned that next week I'm having a HUGE sort out of everything in the house and garage as there is a big jumble sale at the end of the month. Then the week after I'm painting as I'm fed up with the dirty scuffed walls. (I have cleaned them first!)
I have to do this inbetween being available to go to MILs as I don't know how long she has. Hopefully OH won't be sent away (army) before anything happens.
Best of luck to everyone in their Money Saving today. xxxMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning everyone - how are you all doing today?
Up earlier this morning as I need to get into work a little bit earlier than normal.
DH got on okay yesterday, but won't know the results for a while yet. He only had the ankle scanned and will need to go back down for his neck
He was really tired last night and remarked that it's funny how much travelling takes it out of you even when you're just sitting around.
The snow's gone from here this morning, but has been replaced by a gale! It's pretty breezy just now. The ferry's been cancelled this morning, so no new groceries on the shelves for later today. Hope it calms down soon, as we're meant to be going off on it tomorrow afternoon!
DH plans to do the housework and ironing today
Lunch for both of us will be soup and then another game of freezer roulette this evening, maybe fish pie as there's one of them in there.
Have a good day everyone!0 -
Morning All
MSD - glad it's good news from across the pond.
Sunnygirl - very nice to hear your course is going so well.
Didn't catch up with the thread yesterday, time is going nowhere at the moment. Think it is because OH has been home a lot so I am out of routine. OH worked last night so will be in bed most of the day so hope to have a much more productive day today. Aim to work hard in the office this morning then clear the ironing pile this afternoon.
DS' football was cancelled yesterday so went to Makro's instead. Now am fully stocked with toilet roll, kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets, washing powder and bacon. All on special offer luckily. Did spend a lot but should save me over the next couple of months.
Need to do a tesco shop but think will manage to leave that till Monday.
Oh, and also treated myself to some more Really Useful Boxes, so this weekend hope to start tidying and organising my ever increasing amount of scrapbook stuff and also sort out my wrapping and card drawer.
Anyway thats if for this morning, hope to pop back later. Have a good day.x
Esmf73 - so sorry to hear about your mil.xx0 -
Morning everyone.
No mindee today as I am having the mirena fitted at 9am <gulps> Hope it's not too painful
Not sure what's on the agenda today, probably a chilling day as I feel shattered.
Been looking at the cost of holiday cottages for August when we want to go away. Each one gives me a minor heart attack  First year we've been tied to school holidays and I can see why people pull their kids out of school to go away. One place I looked at wanted £1400 for one WEEK! And that wasn't a mansion it was a centre parc type lodge. We could go camping but since the kids are bit hit and miss with their sleeping didn't think it was wise although given the prices we might not have much choice.......
I think tea will be something with a jacket spud. Haven't had one for ages and with the new bag of spuds we bought the other day there are some nice big ones in there.
Sorry not very OS
jackie - Coco is gorgeous xx
julie - sorry the MRI scan was awful but I hope it gives some answers xx
Diva - good news that Tris and Michelle are home :T
Haribo - I second Diva. I want some more stories about the hens
esmf - very sorry to hear about your MIL. I hope she's comfortable xx
Hope everyone that's been poorly is feeling better today. Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife
