Ooh could they not do a nice sponge for you?! Not keen on the heavy fruit cakes! (Not that I'll be there of course haha!)

You look lovely in your pics - have you seen mine from Ibiza?? I was starting to feel like Monica in the Hawaii episode of Friends!

Hehe OH kept saying I should get braids like Monica did! I was tempted but then realised that I'd look even more stupid and didn't want the little patches of skin that would be exposed to burn! I'd already burnt my parting, oooh that hurt!

I don't like fruit cake either Tete, I'm hoping there's a sponge option! I can't wait until the day after the wedding... because I'm going to stuff myself! I'm going to have to be really controlled food-wise in the first week so I fit into my dress and don't have a 'food baby' belly in the photos... but in the last few days I'm going to ban cameras and eat like a maniac! :EasterBun

Haha good plan! Ooh burning your parting is soo painful, and when it peels it looks like dandruff too! I burnt my ears last year, and that bit of skin behind your ears before your hairline, ow ow ow!

I went to a wedding in Panama last Christmas and the cake there was this lovely moist spice cake. Don't know if it's different in the dominican republic, but that cake was amazing! Very sad I only got one nibble... The Panamanians also do this very drunken wedding pudding called Sopa Borracha - literally 'Drunken Soup' which is pretty much just cake soaked in a rum and brandy syrup with raisins and dried plums. It's potent! We're making some for our wedding as well as the traditional cake!

I wish I wish I could have hibiscuses for my flowers! There's a hibiscus on our invitations; I love them, but they don't cut or travel well so having pink gerberas instead...

Well I had a read through the wedding pack and the cake is a sponge cake, and only one layer which isn't very weddingy! Oh well, I think OH's Mum is keen on making a cake for the party so I can have a 3 tiered jobby then! Those cakes sound lovely raspabarbas!

Everything for the wedding is to be chosen on arrival, there weren't any pictures of flowers to choose from or anything :( They also say that you're not allowed to bring your bouquet home, rotters!

Something that's worrying me is that it says that if you stay at the Mambo your wedding will take place in the gazebo on the grounds, which isn't really what we wanted. We wanted the beach so I'm going to e-mail the wedding planner at the hotel when I get home and ask about it.

Oh and apparently if we hire a videographer the quality is not comparable to that of a british videographer (understandable really, it's hardly classed as a technologically advanced country!) and we'd get an actual VHS video off them! I've not had a video player for about 5 years! Think we may have to borrow a decent digital video camera and ask someone to film it for us!

Aye that sounds like a much better plan for the video if you want one Birdie.

Mrs E, I’m getting married at The Riu Mambo in Puerto Plata, it’s a good balance between lovely hotel and affordable so our guests aren’t totally breaking the bank to come!

That's where we went for our honeymoon! We loved and I'd be back there like a shot this year, but dh wants to try somewhere different.

What about getting some pictures at the Lookout? Beautiful there.

    Oooh I'm jealous!! :rotfl:

Would they not make you the cake you want?? Maybe you could contact the hotel direct? They're all so helpful I'm sure they might be able to do something.

Yeah, I'd like some pictures up there if it isn't too windy, when we went for our silly 'photo shoot' thing it was really breezy and in all of the pictures you couldn't see my face because my hair was all over the place! The photographer lent me a hair bobble to tie it back but it didn't look any better! And it all comes back to the hair problem... lol!

I think I'm going to wait until I know how many people are coming before I start making any cake decisions. There's no point in paying extra for a tiered cake because it looks more weddingy if only the top part is actually going to be eaten! I suppose I could ask them to make a couple of fake layers? Hmmm... will think about that one nearer the time!

I'm going wedding dress shopping with my friend tomorrow (for her!)... do you think it would be naughty if I spy my dress in the shop and ask to try it on?! Hehe I don't want to have to wait until July to try it on again!

Omg no! Go for it lol. I bought mine in a sample sale so was sat in the wardrobe at my parents and I used to sneak up there for a peak.

When we were at the Mambo we met a couple who got married there 15 years ago and had been going at least once a year ever since! :rotfl:

Yeah, we got talking to a couple who went 2 or 3 times a year. They know all the staff and bring them presents. They were quite well travelled too, they just like to stick to the Mambo now!

Ooooh, looking forward to going back! Less than a year!
