Wholesale prices for produce change daily. Unlike with tinned or frozen goods a fixed price for basic fruit and veg isn't really possible.
I know supermarkets like to prepackage produce then round it up to the nearest 50p to buffer against price changes but for the basics like potatoes you have to expect the price to change. For example the so called "half price" strawberries in June makes us think there is a fixed rrp all year round when it is obvious if there is a glut of British summer strawberries as opposed to flying them in from Morocco in January of course the wholesale and retail price will be different.0 -
ASDA - remember the 'stone' Permanently low prices forever ! (presumably until the very end of time itself )Still virtually alcohol free since 4/1/15. (10 Xmas/ New Year/Birthday drinks)

This weekend I shopped at Asda for the first time in months - Spent more and came out with less!!
I purposely avoided all the so called special offers as you had to spend more money to get the reduction!!
But back to normal this weekend - check all the flyers coming through the door and then write my shopping list and menu plan.
Since Xmas I have shopped at 2/3 shops each week even though its not that convenient.
It's Tuesday and we have next to nowt in the cupboard thanks to Asda!!The rollbacks are nowt but an illusion.

:mad:What is going on in our local supermarkets?
..prices are rising weekly - and not by 1 or 2p either ....the Value/Basic lines are gradually disappearing...
You are cordially invited to use this thread to post the price rises on Value / Basic items that you have noticed in recent weeks and what items are no longer on the shelves...it will be interesting to see if this is a nationwide phenomenon! Hints and tips welcome !

Great idea. Recent Tescos curry sauce from 4p to 20p.went back down tho.
Tescos no longer stock (at least not in our branch) value soap, cream cheese with garlic and herbs, deodrant ,low fat yoghurt.
Most items have gone up 4or 5p all around the store. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Since my deliveries at the start of the month:
My tesco no longer stock value soft cheese - so I will instead use Mr S who have increased it from 27p to 45p
Basic/value butter has gone from 85p to 98p
Value fromage frais has gone from 20 odd pence to 45 - if I had noticed in time I wouldn't have accepted it.
Apparently the value noodles have shot up too.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Tesco 6 pack of Kick (their version of Red Bull) went from £1.52 to £2 recently. It seemed to drop back for a day or 2 then went straight back up again. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0

Our Tesco stocks value soft cheese but not the one with garlic and herbs. Our value noodles still seem to be 9p. Our value butter recently went from 78p to 85p.
Ours is only a small Tescos so hard for me to tell if they are discontinued or not as I cant drive to the nearest big one so this thread is ideal. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
