Hi everyone,
I have noticed my plums going off, so thought I would ask for advice on here.
Are they any good in a pie?
How do I do that? (prepare the plums, not pie topping)
Thanks everyone.

No Benny Hill or seaside postcard jokes please....:rotfl:
For a pie all I would do is cut the plum in half from the stalk end to the base so you can remove the stone.
I'd then put them in a pie dish with a generous sprinkling of sugar (plum pie can be a bit "tart". Yes it IS a tart you're making, but I mean sour...). Pastry on top, bake, and voila!
If some are going moldy make sure you don't include those in the pie. Slightly wrinkly ones should be OK though. Plums release a lot of liquid when you cook them, so if you want pastry on the bottom as well you should probably bake the bottom "blind" first.0 -
Thanks ChapelGirl, do I have to skin them first or will they be alright?0

I'm with Chapelgirl on a pie, but if you're not in a pastry making mood, top the sprinkled plums with a basic victoria sponge mix - doesn't matter if bits of plums poke through - bake and you've got a pudding. I stone but don't skin too0

Thanks very muchly. Will try the sponge though, that sounds yummy.0

You can put them into a crumble; the good news is that no only do they not need skinningyou don;t need to cook them first - just stone them, put in a dish, cover with crumble mix, cook, eat with clotted cream :T
As this has fallen from the front of OS, I'll add it to the exisitng thread to give you more suggestions.

Ok, so I do realise that it's not the season for plums in any way, shape or form, but ASDA had a huge bag on special offer (£1 for 1.5Kg), and they just happened to make their way into my trolley...
I know I can make a plum tart thing with them, but what to do with the rest? I have no room in the freezer,so I was thinking that as they probably aren't that great tasting, perhaps making plum vodka or something? Oh, and we have enough jam to feed half the British Army plus their dependants, so I don't really want to make any more
Anyone have any ideas?
