I have a tree full! If you have the recipe for wine I would be very grateful, have buckets, demijohns etc but no enzymes, campden tablets etc or any idea where to buy them! Maybe will try without, sure my parents never bothered...June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

My partner found a yummy recipe on the net last night - sorry I don't know the web address.
Basically, you need 2 duck breasts (we had some from the reduced section), a handful or so of plums, a little soya sauce and water. Slice the plums roughly, and put a thickish layer in a small baking dish - the dish should be just big enough for the duck, as if it is too big the plums will spread out and burn. Onto the plums, sprinke a couple of teaspoons of soya sauce and a couple of tablespoons of water. Put the duck on the plums skin side up, and place in a hot oven for 15 mins (gas 7), then turn it down to about gas 4 for another 45 mins or until done.
Remove the duck and whizz up the plums and juices with a stick blender or in a liquidiser. The resulting sauce is really yummy and goes well with the fatty taste of the duck. If you wanted to make it lower fat, you could let the plums cool a little and skim some of the duck fat off the top before liquidising.
We served it on cous cous with broad beans from the allotment on the side - truly yummy!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
Hello
I was hoping for some more help with fresh produce.
I have in my possession a carrier bag full of plums. They're gorgeous but there's only two of us so not going to get through them.
I have been given enough plum jam to see me through the next few years (no idea why but I people keep turning up with it :T) so need ideas about what I could do with them.
Can I stew them and freeze them? Would this then be suitable as the base for crumbles etc? Are there cakes I could bake them in and then freeze? Freezer space isn't an problem and I'm getting right into my baking at the moment so any ideas along these lines would be great.
Thanks so much in advance - hopefully I'll be able to give some advice of my own on here eventually!!

Best thing to do is just to prepare them like you would for stewing, then freeze them. When you come to using them - either for stewed plums or in a crumble, just tip them into the dish, add sugar to taste and cook.
I did this with apples and Rhubarb last week - I just add the fruit straight out of the freezer and put a crumble mix on top.
Great!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

Could you make spotted !!!!!! with plums rather than raisins?
How about plum vodka? Make the same way as sloe gin, cheap xmas booze give away (but will be better next year)0 -
I had a glut and made a cake/pudding really simply:
I stoned and cut plums in halves/quarters and put in buttered ovenproof dish, cut sides up and sprinkled with sugar
I then made a basic victoria sponge mixture and blobbed over the top - didn't worry about plums popping through! Baked and served with custard and it was very good. If you baked until only just cooked rather than browned you could freeze cake/pudding and reheat from frozen.
Lot of alternatives depending on what you have - a blob of marzipan plonked in the 'stone hole' of the plum halves will give cake a lovely almond flavour - or lemon zest etc.0
