    Hi everyone,

i`ve just updated my siggy but haven`t caught up with the last few pages yet, i`ll do that a bit later. I only have £4.58 left for the rest of the month and i`ll probably spend all of it shortly as i`m off to the shops.

We only need a couple of bits and pieces though. We need dried yeast, milk, garlic and some lambs liver. I shall check the freezer before i leave as i hope that there is some bacon in there and then i can make liver and bacon pate for the freezer as we love this on toast. There is only one pot left in the freezer and i never usually let it get this low.

I`ll be back later to see what you`ve all been up to.

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p
  • Yay! My friend gave me back the money for the fish and chips, so now am definitely under. I did go out to eat last night, though (that doesn't go on grocery budget), so kind of defeats the point... will be better next month!

I wasn't AS bad as I thought I'd be at the weekend. I spent €53 in the farmer's market. But that included 3 packs of curry spices (€4.50 each, but 3 for €10 and we adore them, I was getting 2 anyway) as well as naans and ghee; a pack of organic free range pork chops for tonight (the flavour is divine!!); free range bacon and some blue cheese; loads of chocolate for cooking (about 3 months worth); and a bunch of things from the cookery school stall - bearnaise butter, tapenade, and wild garlic pesto (which is also divine, and which will be served tomorrow evening with plain boiled fresh pasta - I have persuaded Dh to have a meat free tea!!). So expensive, but treats for a while there.

Meanwhile, this week we'll actually need very little else. I have to buy bread tonight, but I have enough milk until much later this week. Menu plan is roughly:
Tonight - pork chops, boiled potatoes and savoy cabbage (HG)
Tomorrow: fresh pasta (from supermarket last week) with wild garlic pesto
Wednesday: Roast lamb dinner (joint unused from St Patrick's Day - has to be used by Fri)
Thursday: grilled fish (DH out for work)
Friday: Leftover lamb as a curry or reheated in gravy with fresh spuds
Saturday: I am determined to get to the fishmonger Sat morn, so whatever is good
Sunday - some kind of roast that looks good when shopping

Hello all, sorry been mia for a while but sadly my mum died so things have been hectic; my dd came home from Oz for the funeral, she was here for just over a week which was a lovely bonus even under sad circumstances.

I’m trying to get back into routine this week. I’ve spent the last couple of days decluttering and organising my craft room and I’ve not been cooking or eating properly. I need to sit down, redo my meal plan for the month, and then look at what I need to buy (hopefully not much) to get myself organised again.

I've spent a little on groceries in the last couple of weeks, will tot up and face up to the total later

Its cheering to hear about veg gardens getting under way – spring must be here then! We have glorious sunshine this morning but lots of rain forecast for the week

Good luck for the rest of the month everyone!

So sorry to hear your sad news, you are in my thoughts :)

Sorry, meant to ask - does anyone have a "recipe" for beef stir fry as I want to use the left over beef from today tomorrow. I have the beef (obviously!), peppers, mushrooms, onions and soya sauce but not sure if that will be too dry?

I would put some stir fry oil in the pan i.e. sesame or chilli or if not just any oil, throw the veg in (chopped into similar sized pieces), add the beef at the end as someone else said and then throw in any sauces you have i.e. soy, chilli, sweet chilli, hoisin, plum, oyster, anything you have. I'd also add some minced garlic.

Oh, and also managed to score a jar of curry sauce, a pack of prawn cracker (to be deep fried), mixed herbs, and 2 cartons of grapefruit juice from my Sis at the weekend, as she was clearing out stores at work (marketing) where certain lines are discontinued (bummer - we LIKED that juice!) or being trialled. Doesn't happen often, but we got lucky!!

And bro gave me a box of choccies for helping clear out his room before moving home. Lovely ones too (just rarely eat much - still have half a tin of Christmas roses to get through) so will use those as an Easter pressie for MIL.

£3.25 on eggs today and £27 at mr t, so now over...

i have planned some meals so some of the mr t shop was for bits for that, making http://www.freestylecookery.com/2009/07/recipe-crispy-soy-and-honey-pork-mince.html with some whoopsied pork mince from the freezer tomorrow, so bought spring onions and noodles for that meal,

and instead of buying a chicken to stretch today i bought a whoopsied huge joint of rib beef (1/3rd off), i had been fancying one for ages and waiting for a whoopsie, so roast beef for tea tonight (will make up for the spag bol yesterday..), then going to do roast beef rogan josh and also cottage pie later in the week, and also maybe another roast dinner.

mr t has £1 for the 21 wash of comfort fabric conditioner ( i buy the orange one) or £2 for twice the size, this is over a 3rd off so bought up 4 small bottles to go in my 'bought at reduced price' store. i only have 2 bottles left of the persil non bio liquid so will be looking for that on offer soon, or will have to bite the bullet and pay full price.

best wishes to all and ((hugs)) to those who need them,

    poppy x

I have to apologise for not posting regularly this month. I have been quite naughty and not updated my totals as regularly as I wanted to. In any case, I DID maintain a roster (with receipts) of all the amounts spent, and I can now say I have £70.7 left in the pot for the month. Today I'll probably pop into Aldi's and I'll try try try to remember to update my totals on this thread when I get home!!!
